When your new rifle is too beautiful to use for hunting!!

They can always be refinished, use em...

who the heck is setting these prices? The pieces I see online for $275 look worse than the stuff I can pick up locally for $45.....View attachment 860636

At least the figured stuff makes sense - not sure how anything could really ever beat the bottom left one though.View attachment 860647

Yeah a good blank can run a pretty penny, especially if it has both figure and grain. I just tied into this build last week, it should be a nice piece by spring time.

I have a few nice rifles in the safe, stuff that could look better and be worth more if I didn’t use them… I also have a custom rifle coming soon(I hope) and that will be the most expensive and the most beautiful rifle I will ever own, and you can be sure it will follow me in the bush, will I be cautious, for sure but not to the point of not taking it out even in harsh condition! Life it too short to hunt with a ugly gun! Take care of your rifle but take it out hunting, that is what it was made for!View attachment 860462View attachment 860463
May have been your gun Bradshaw put up a pic of the other day on FB. Said it was going to Cda. He builds some nice stuff, and pretty much each one is unique.

I remember seeing that action shown in the kipplauf thread; it was lovely then and has certainly retained its beauty now. Congrats, that is delightful! :)

I use all my rifles and they all show their little character marks; it's terrific to look down at your rifle while hunting and think to yourself "Wow...that's just beautiful!"

My nemesis when it comes to hunting rifles is rain. I don't worry about dents or scratches, but getting one of my non-stainless rifles soaking wet drives me crazy. I hunted deer this year with a nice wood-stocked rifle that I had been prepping and playing with all summer long...and then wound up taking my buck on a rainy day when I chickened out and grabbed a stainless/synthetic gun as I walked out the door that morning.

I can already see that decision will be pissing me off far longer than any tiny wear mark on a wood-stocked rifle ever could. :)

Hello

3 months ago, I bought a Winchester 70 30-06 super grade Maple.

I went deer hunting in November and I realize that I am too afraid of damaging it.

Has it ever happened to you to almost regret it because you don't want to damage it!! Or is it too bad, it will be part of the history of the rifle?

Podz
I have a Supergrade M70 that I was too afraid to damage hunting. I went out hunting with it anyway, and after the first blmish, I stopped caring so much. It was the same with the new truck I bought last summer. - one stone chip on the grille and now it's just another truck I'll use and replace when th time comes. lol. No point buying something if you never use it.

For scratches, a little rub with some oil or wax. Rain won't hurt anything if you care for it when you get back to camp.

Yep, the rain is more a problem than the scratches.

It is, but man getting that thing up here ain’t easy or simple!! But it will get up here!!

If I owned something like this I don’t think it would ever leave the safe.

I always said that no rifle was too pretty to hunt with; but one day I realized I wasn't practicing what I was preaching anymore. Not completely at least. That might be partly because I have more rifles than I can shoot regularly; and somewhat more practical choices for rough conditions. When you're soaked to the bone with no end in sight, nowhere to dry off and watching your cartridges turn green in the mag, and getting sick and dieing seems like one of the better options you don't really need to add watching mirror polishes turn red and AAA Claro look like beaver bait to the misery. ;)

Know when a family has a new baby and they ask if you want to see the cutest baby in the world ? And show you an absolute gargoyle alien baby and you gotta pretend it’s cute ?

I’ll be honest with you. I’ve seen you post a couple times about this rifle. It’s fkn hideous.

But to each his own

It's similar to dealing with the guy who talks before thinking. Smile, nod, and move on.
