When's the .308 Mossberg MVP Patrol coming to Canada?

Ok, I saw this video, and a bolt action, compact .308 that takes DMPS / PMAG and M14 mags looks like a total winner to me... The Mossberg MVP Predator. I'm a fan of the Ruger Gunsite Scout, and this really caught my eye!

Any ideas when this thing is coming to Canada? The next video implies production started in Nov 2013...
If you notice in the second vid, it looks like specific Mossberg-branded magazines for this thing. What's the legal implication of that (if any)?

The MVP Varmint is sold on Cabela's, so there's no theoretical reason why this one shouldn't be sold here... right?

I imagine it's just poor demand, or perhaps they're all going to the firesale US market right now?

Talk to an importer, perhaps they have an idea.

MVP 308, standard mag pinned to 5, flashhider (dont think its pinned)

No thread protector, not sure if this is standard for Canada or they just forgot to put it in the box.

Can I ask why anyone would like that at all?

Barrel is too short, yet the rifle is still heavy.
It should kick up too much due to balance of the short barrel.
Magazine sticks out, if you walk with it for any distance beyond "car - bench - car - garage" it will annoy you. Yet it is not any "higher capacity" and I can't see why would extra couple of rounds beyond 5 matter in a bolt gun anyway.
If you are to shoot using only irons - the sight length is too short. With optics its way too bulky and I guess you want it to be as compact as possible.

I don't mean to spoils anyone's fun, whatever makes it for you. Just curious. Would would be a philosophy of use for something like that?

And to put the icing on the cake it's a wood (pine IIRC) stock painted black.

I see a rifle stock and I want it painted black
No other colors for the stock - I want it black
I see the range guys walk by dressed in unicam
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

;)

Owlowl, the barrel is to short for what?

I like it, if you dont thats fine. People have different tastes thats how life is.

The pmag sticks out but i dont see how this will effect me walking any distance, but i guess it effects some people.

I had a x-bolt, mags cost $60 for 4 rounder. I can buy pmags for $23.

Your not spoiling my fun, i will be having lots of fun shooting this.

Well, 16 inch is short for .308, you just waste a lot of power for a big flash. If you want short range big boom - pump 12 gauge would do more "stopping" and faster "boom boom boom". If you want light and compact I bet you CZ 527 in 7.62x39 will have same boom for less recoil and weight. Or a lever action for that matter. If you want to have "black gun with a mag" sks in plastic will be way more "black" and more "boom boom boom" or and hopefully CZ 858 for that matter.

To carry it with mag sticking out it should lay flat on your back. But the swivels are just regular bottom front/rear, so it will hang "mag in your body" instead of "flat on the side".

As for the prices of magazines. Honestly, how many magazines do you need? It sounds like you throw them away once they empty, like clips. If a box or two worth for factory ammo matters than much why do you buy spare magazines anyway, one or two is enough ^)

Anyway I'm all for it. Enjoy.

Considering it's called the MVP Patrol, maybe it isn't meant to be slung much, and therefore the mag protruding that far wouldn't matter.

When on patrol, you carry your rifle in front of you, in the low ready position.

I could be way off, but maybe that's what they were going for?

Bottom swivels suck for that as well. Side sling mounts are really the only decent way to properly sling a rifle.

I was thinking maybe it just wasn't meant to be slung while carried in front, but you're right - It would be really nice if it had side swivels.

Considering how well they work, why do you think they aren't just standard on everything?

Smith42r, some people overthink this. I am going to take this to the range and shoot it. Walking from the car to the range will not require a sling, the mag will not be in the rifle.

If i did want to hunt with this then i would get my guide to carry the rifle :)

It is all good , those that like the rifle , buy and enjoy as life is short . For those who do not like it , buy something else and enjoy as life is short.....different strokes for different folks....
