Where Are All The 12(6)'s ???

Since I'm in my mid-to-late-forties, I'm at the young end of the age range for people fortunate enough to have 12(6) grandfathered status. I figured that now, after 20 years since these guns were prohibited, the market would be flooded with inexpensive 12(6)'s. There haven't been any new ones imported since C-68, but the number of people with grandfathered status is, obviously, decreasing every year.

Whenever I look at the inventories of online and bricks-and-mortar gunshops, there never seems to be many prohibs, and the prices don't seem to be that great. So, what's the story?

I'm not looking to add too much to my collection, but wouldn't mind a couple more prohibs, if the price is reasonable. I shoot my 12(6) guns more than I thought I ever would, because I like to take them to the range and give the younger folks a chance to shoot stuff that they, unfortunately, can't own themselves.

12(6) guys.... Where's a place (in S Ontario) to find prohibs for sale?
 
I think people are hanging on to nice ones. I've sold dozens of really nice prohibs here but I almost never see them for sale again. The sad part is if the owner dies his next of kin will almost certainly have the police dispose of them.
 
Switzer's Auction usually has 10-20. Prices on prohibs used to be great for us that could buy them. I picked up a couple of beautiful 36's a few years back. 2" round butt and 3" square butt. 3" was new in original box. 150 bucks apiece.Those good old days are long gone with live internet bidding. Plus I think a lot of really nice stuff is going to the states. Big difference in the dollar right now.

Anemic .32acp's, tiny .22lr's, snub nosed 38's.... I never used them because frankly... They all suck.

To me all the 12.6 handguns are not worth near what people are asking for them...I think some sellers have it backwards. These guns aren't especially valuable due to their status at prohib. In fact they are pretty near worthless due to their status as prohib.
You can pay any price for a12.6 certain in the knowledge that eventually it will be confiscated from someone without compensation.
 
I enjoy shooting my short barreled revolvers over the longer ones and have no plans to sell the 12-6 ones. . As far as value, I do notice they don't sell for as much or as fast as their restricted counterparts.

Very disappointed in the Conservative government for the opportunity they let slip by and every time they phone me for money this comes to mind right quick. . I doubt we'll have another chance, for quite some time, to eliminate the 12-6 restriction on handguns. .
 
Where's the logic in something like this being a prohibited revolver. . 4 mm longer it'd be good to go. . If I need to sell these, they'll be good to go alright, going south before they head for the smelter. . It was disgusting what the liberals did and disgusting what the conservatives didn't do.

I beg to differ :). While there are lots of junky old 12.6s out there, there are some gems if you're patient enough to wait for them.

Every one of my money-winning competition guns had a 4" or shorter barrel, except my .45, which had a 4 1/4" barrel. I have a Walther that was shot at the PanAm games, it's got an 57mm barrel! (by someone with a tonne more talent than me!).

On a "normal" handgun, I shoot a short barrel better than a 6" or longer.


Prices before the prohibition were more reasonable. It seemed that shortly after the Firearms Act came into force, the 12.6 guns got pretty expensive.
 
I have a few 12-6's
cheap 32's and 38's But the first one was my grandfathers Blackpowder
and it will never leave my possession,
a 45 colt - 410 derringer that's kinds neat
I once left some of my short bbl prohibited guns
on a table by some restricted handguns and some non restricted
rifles for a day, You Know What non of them hurt anybody
I think all my guns must be defective , they don't seem to be mass murders
like the press and anti's seem to say
 
Looking at the 12X EE the prices are not too bad. It kind of irks me that I have to pay $300.00 more for a few millimeters of barrel especially on a revolver. Semi's and break actions get to include the chamber while revolvers don't.
 
It all depends on the gun. Most of the old war time and pre war small semis (with notable exceptions) were not that great to begin with, and a lot were war time bring backs. A lot of these guns have been on the EE for a long time for next to nothing. Same thing with 38 snubs, I wouldn't pay more than $250 for one ($300 if it was mint), but I have a couple of snub nose 44 specials and 44 mag that I could pretty much just name my price and sell instantly. Modern high quality semi's are still reasonable. There are a couple of really nice Beretta's and Browning BDA's that are around $450 which is actually a very good price. The thing is, that the best ones can't be grandfathered because they are post 46.
 
Since my post count is getting close to another goat and I don't have 12.6 but do have 12.5....ya I am kicking myself for not keeping one at all times!.You guys can always check out Wards auctions in Edmonton. Wards and the big Reddeeer auction facility got together and have gun auctions. I have heard prices can get high(no experience with them) but its a option....also check out Meiers or how ever its spelled in Edmonton. Every 3-4 months they have a gun auction also..

No kidding. There was another thread a few weeks ago with an article quoting Wendy puling about the number of prohibs and restricteds in the country. Meanwhile in the same article, it was made clear that something like 300, 000 prohibs out of the over half million created by the FA had already been destroyed. Wendy is very good at speaking out of both sides of her mouth at the same time.
 
Fondled this mint S&W Model 15 Combat Master Piece while my Father was around. Sadly I had to give it up…..good memories tho!
