where are all the fixed power scopes?

maybe it’s just me.
i like my fixed power optics
i have a few M8 leupold and FX-II and a couple weavers.

leupold seams to have dropped most of their fixed power scopes.

i have been hunting for a FX-II 4x rimfire with no luck. would also like another 2.5x ultralight to put on a single shot 30-30 i have.

who is making good fixed power scopes?
 
Them old fixed Leupold arrr fetch’in ne’er a kings ransom iff’in you can find’im.
If yer nawt biased on old steel tubers, give Trace Scope Repair a call.
They may have what your after in a used one that has been serviced.

WTB in the EE?
 
look for a Simmons 4x scope they are budget friendly
glass is clear they have a 50 yard parallax which makes it ideal for rimfire (.22 - 17hmr)
 
I run a new Karl Kaps 4x36 on a Steyr that I can’t speak more highly of. Austrian made, bright and reasonable price.

Also, fairly good luck buying vintage S&B and Zeiss out of Germany on EBay as well.

I would say there is no demand for fixed power scopes anymore.

Otherwise the scope manufacturers would flood the market with them.

Optics improved drastically in the las 30 years, therefore why would you buy an 8 fixed power scope, if you can have a 4-16 with the same clarity for the same price?

I on 2 Leupold M8 12x fixed, and a Weaver 2.5 fixed, and more.
 
The manufacturers make what is popular in sales and fixed power scopes are low on the list.
I think this is due to the quality of variable scopes compared to what was once on the market.
 
Post #6 is correct, no reason not to go variable anymore.
I recently spent some time behind a 3-12 Swarovski Habicht, about as good of scope as was made for the period. I was forever searching for the eye box between powers, felt like about a half mile between 3 and 12.
I’ve still got a couple 6x36 and 6x42 leupolds mounted on rifles and see no reason to change them. I wish I had a stockpile of gloss vx3’s, dull finish and short tubes peeve me.

Yup I have a Bushnell Elite Tactical 10 X 40mm on my CZ457 and it's a great fit for the range, out in the gopher patch not so much so I am thinking about changing it our for a variable, something along the lines of a 3 - 9 or maybe 4 - 12 ish :unsure:

get the 4-12 and leave it set on 10x forever ;)

There were all sorts of reasons given for going to variable power scopes back in the early days.

One of the biggest marketing lures, "you could crank them up to the highest magnification too "glass an area or animal," and then crank it back down to 4X for shooting the animal when it was closer.

They also stated zero wouldn't change with magnification changes, etc. Maybe on the very odd one, it worked as it was supposed to, but they were few and far between.

I absolutely agree but:
1. That was ‘back then tech’ and i would have to say that my current variables hold true.
2. Keeping it fixed shouldn’t lose a zero from the aforementioned concern.

I've got a couple of current variables that also hold well, and I also mentioned in the post that it was spam marketing hype when variables first started hitting the markets.

One thing I've found, is when I send decent quality, old school variables such as Tasco World Class to Phil at Trace scope repairs, for a cleaning and adjustments/repair, when they come back, they work as they're supposed to, and hold zero even with magnification changes.

i have variable scopes. reliability has always been good. fixed are smaller and lighter.
