Peak niche for higher-magnification fixed scopes would have to be rimfire benchrest, where you want to see tiny bullseyes clearly at 100 or 200 yards and don't have so much field ahead of you that some hot summer days you need to zoom out to see past mirage, as with long-range centrefire.
