Where are they? Nobody seems to even have them listed anymore, did they stop makin them all together? If anyone knows where to find one (or wants to sell me theirs ;). ) I'd be a super happy guy.

Keep an eye on the EE. It does work. And some times you have to pay for what you want. And you do know they are worth it

I saw that one, but $350 is slightly on the steep side, and I'd prefer the stainless synthetic model anyhow. The sights are way better on the stainless model, and it takes a beating better. Better suited for its purpose in stainless.

For sure if you want stainless then a blue gun is out, but as far as "slightly steep" your WTB says willing to pay full retail price and $350 shipped and taxed for a NIB is pretty much retail.

You can get in on a waiting list with Grouse River at a fair enough price. I was tipped off that SFRC had one... and they did (though wasn't listed on the site). Supposed to arrive today.
Also, not discontinued contrary to what a seller tried to tell me, they are still listed in the 2013 Marlin catalog.

The blued 70p Papoose is nice looking but I've looked up pictures online and it looks like they don't have the bolt release or hold lever the current model has. I usually prefer wood stocked rifles myself, but I agree the Papoose is better in synthetic/stainless for its purpose.

I hear ya. I say slightly steep... to be exact i'd pay $300 max for a used stainless model shipped, but not the blued one with inferior sights, let alone $350. A blued/wood takedown survival rifle is just inferior to a synth/stainless model imho, i don't think i'd pay more than $275 shipped for that particular model. The fact that it's a "ducks unlimited" means sweet F.A. to me in terms of what it's worth to me.

Brand new list price for the stainless papoose at WSS in 2012 was $239, $267 after tax... $300 shipped max.

The DU doesn't do it for me and actually decreases it's value in my eye..... but I like the blue ones. I've got some tech peep sights on mine but I usually use a red dot. I actually prefer the simplicity of the older design and just pull the bolt to release. If I was bushwhacking a lot in bad weather I'd consider painting it but the blue doesn't seem to be an issue with my use. I bought a stainless one a few years back but I decided to return it for a refund as it had a poorly machined scope groove.

Don't know why they bother producing such a gun in blue??
I'd def pass on a blue one as the stainless is obviously in keeping with the rifles purpose.

You don't see them much cuz Marlin has totally shat the bed with QA and build quality and everyone is gettin pretty wise to it.

I had an older stainless Papoose that was deadly accurate and reliable...fed it tons of rds. Traded it off and regretted it so picked up a much later production gun in the same config....was a POS..inaccurate, unreliable feeding and broke a firing pin, ejector and rear sight during routine use....passed it along dirt cheap with fair warning to the new owner.

When/If Marlin gets their shat together the Papoose could use a redesign. A redesigned butt with storage and shorter LOP, better sights and a shorter barrel would make an excellent design a lot better.

As for price it worth whatever a 1022 is but nothing more as far as quality and design go. Market value is whatever the market will bear...and with few of them around and the newer ones crap....leaves the older ones a sellers market.

FWIW I've gone the route of very short barreled 1022's with buttstocks keeping them just inside legal OAL and or 1022's with a BC folder.
A 1022 with BC folder is just about as compact as a Papoose and doesn't need to be disassembled...lot's of mag choices and acc make this approach a better go IMO than a Papoose.
