Where are all the Russkie SKS's?

There were only two small lots imported in Canada.

- The first was by Century, they were Egyptian War surplus.

- The second was by Districorps, no idea were that lot came from.

I'd love to see more come in. I wonder why theyre not imported more? Canadians have proven to have SKS-itis, and we gobble up other russian surplus rifles...might have to import one from the US this summer...

Probably because they're illegal to bring into the US, same as the SVT-40. Which of course we got, BUT, I think most of the Russian SKSs were passed on to client states, the unreliable ones they didn't want to give AKs. And they're probably still pretty widely used in them.

Even in the USA they are not common, some were imported before the Clinton ban. They usually sell for $300.00 to $400.00 USD.

"...Canadians have proven to have SKS-itis..." It's far worse in the States. Guys wanting scopes on a carbine, trying to turn a stop gap rifle into a target rifle, etc, etc.
The Russians haven't made the SKS since the late 60's. I suspect that most of them were sent to 'client' countries like North Viet Nam. Then there's our governments not wanting them here. Both the Socialist F**ks and the PC's.

They made millions of them, so I'm sure there are still some out there waiting to be sold.

Problem is there are very few Canadian companies out there importing them, and there are many little middle men in between that take their cut and up the cost.

If you really want one I'd contact the factories/state arsenal directly, and then do some homework on shipping and importing. :D

Russian SKS where out of production back in 50s... They have internal market for them as well - approved rifle for hunting over there. In fact army discontinued AK-47 back in early 60s too, and started AKM which about the same, but in 70s they exchanged them for AK-74 with a different caliber and now it goes into AN-94... Nothing the same all the time...

There probably won't be any other types of SKSes for sale until all the Yugoslavian ones at Marstar are sold out, seeing as they're the big cheese on these types of things. Lever Arms brings in Chinese ones now and then, but that's about it.

As I said, Russian SKS are long gone from production, Chinese crap are still made today. Two my neighbours had issues with chinese SKS:
1. crappy sights and safety fell apart = trigger group cannot hold in place anymore.

2. Crappy barrel + crappy wood then fell apart after 6 month - he had to replace it and he did it with plastic.

Yugo are good, but has no chrome protection in the barrel, so make sure you clean it. ;)

From Marstar's m-59 page:

Note: we are presently sold out of these fine milled receiver SKS pattern rifles. We are trying to obtain more but do not presently know if or when we will have more. Please keep an eye on our site: further details will be posted here.

The one I used to own had arabic writing on the buttstock. It was a 1951 if memory serves. I think I paid $300 for it.

Apparently LOTS of them went to Egypt.

If the bolt carrier was blued that is also an indication they were sold/given to some other country when Roosia got rid of them

lots came into canada thru Ontario Gun and Tackle in the mid 80's...all PLO guns captured by the IDF....My first SKS I bought was a Russian back in 1983..when 7.62x39mm was $$$$ as hell....

I got a T63 (N. Korean) from the same lot. It's here in Canada somewhere. I'd give certain strategic anatomical features to have it back. ;)

I had to shoot Lapua 7.62x39 at the time and it was quite hard to find and pricey as mentioned.
