We also noticed that the majority of deer seen, and harvested, were mature bucks (ie the most likely to survive)

Actually, mature bucks are often the most susceptible to harsh winter conditions as they are often in very poor condition after the rut and without sufficient sources of feed, they are unable to recover. Our deer in northern Alberta took a severe hit two years ago from a tough winter and it was the mature breeding bucks that were hit the hardest......

X2!Sheephunter is 100% correct.Provincially, the 2008 deer harvest was down app. 30% from 2007 as was predicted it would be due to the harsh winter of 07-08.northern NB was hardest hit with heavy snow and up to 40% winterkill, while it wasn't nearly so bad in the south where I live and hunt.Personally, didn't notice any difference at all in my area, seen plenty of deer,as good a year as any?

Haven't observed a decline in deer numbers but harvest numbers are way down. Both the weather and moon was horrible for deer hunting during our firearm seasons in southern Ontario.
With a rifle season that lasts 6 days and everyday was 25C and a strong south wind deer movement was minimal.
The ML season we had a couple feet of snow on the ground and deer had already transitioned to winter yards in thick cedar swamps.
Coyote numbers seem to be the same or down from last year (it seemed like most groups had more coyote kills than deer hanging)

That would be our overpopulated BirdsHill park.Bowhunting only is allowed around the park, but with most of the land being private and alot of urban sprawl. It is hard getting permission to hunt.Automobiles and dogs are thier only real worries.

holy deer ,havent seen a herd like that man you guys are blessed. And for those 5 deer we went to 4 different counties, hunted hard all day, only saw them in groups in the swamps there were no loners and most were mature deer , all the usual northern properties were void of deer we got into them in one of our southern county properties, for those 5 we busted our asses ,lots of coyotes around, looks like time to thin them out
