Where are the Grouse?

There will be a few pockets here and there, but in BC a wet spring means fewer grouse,as chick survival will be way down.Remember our spring weather? Mur

Have gotten 4 Blue, 3 Spruce (2 of them were beside each other on the side of the road, got one on the ground and the other in the tree it flew into) and 3 Ruffies so far while out deer hunting this year.

Fanned on 2 Ruffies and 1 Blue as well.

Grouse I can find but I'll be F'd if I can find a shootable deer.

Pretty scarce this year around here as well.
I think Grouse Man has them all cooped up......
Seen a bunch of California Quail on my buddies property
out in the Shuswap.
Rumor has it that someone's coop opened up a while back and
now they are growing in numbers. Hope winter doesn't do them in.

I got 3 in Victoria Saturday before last. They're deep in the bush, not on logging roads I'm finding. 2 of the 3 I got were along game trails and flushed as I walked by, the other one was chillin under a cedar bough before I shot it in the face with my AR7.

They are very scarce in the Bancroft area. Sunny weekend last, and not one seen. Thanksgiving weekend only produced 2 flushed. A wet spring is awfully hard on them.

I've been seeing a fair number of spruce and ruffies in the Merritt area.Take the less travelled roads. They're there.Had a group of them beating they're chests all around our moose camp last week, couldn't find them though lol.

I've come across quite a few this year, but they haven't been their typical "Sure I'll stand on the road and let you shoot at me a dozen times". They see you and take off. It's really odd.

I live in PG, and in the area I hunt, ruffies were quite scarce.
Some other areas apparently did better.
Weather in spring is a major factor on grouse numbers.
Regards, Eagleye.

We were just south of PG. I figure with all the rabbits this year it took pressure off of the grouse with the wolves and coyotes. We got 4 rabbits this year and usually never even see one.

I've gotten a few rabbits as well. I've also missed quite a few (little buggers hit the bush pretty fast).

I've taken quite a few ruffies in the bush this year. However, I've hardly seen any birds on the farmland this year. One covey of Hungarian Partridge.
