Where are the Remmy 597's? (west coast).

So who on the west coast of Canada is selling these rifles?
I've looked around, but I don't see many if any listings from sponsors.

Also any Vancouver Island folks seen these in any of our local stores?

Hopefully in the trash can. My buddies got one, and I can honestly say, it is a pile of crap. Jams, bolt won't fully close after it cycles. Junk. It works great after he rips it apart and fires a mag or two, than it goes haywire again.

Seems to be hit and miss like anything else these days.
I'm just surprised at how few I have seen in local stores so far.

Sounds like buddy has overtightened the setscrews retaining the guide rods. That is a common mistake.

So long as you use a metal-bodied magazine, the barrel is on tight, the setscrews are -just- snug to the guide rods, and the reciever is torqued tightly and evenly into the stock, you won't have any problems with a 597. It is such a simple gun, that in my opinion, if you can't figure-out a 597 you should take-up another hobby. Like knitting.

Calum, you are smart enough to know how much you can trust a second-hand review. Especially with all the gems that can be found here.

I own a 597 and have never had a problem with it since I properly maintain it. If you want a Remington 597, wholesalesports.com carries them. If you want any more detailed info re: the 597, pm me.

I own one of these too but I always had problems of jamed casings in the mecanism even if I clean it after each days at range. I heard that the problem should be resolved if I change the extractor or a part like that. If you have an idea for my problem, it would be great because mine jam an average of 3 shot per mags (10 rounds mags).

It's the extractor. The 'hook' of the extractor collects dirt and crap. When it's dirty, it doesn't eject well, and you get a stovepipe. Also, the extractor is a relatively soft stamped part. After a while it loses it's shape, or at least, whatever shape it had when it was freshly stamped. I replaced mine with a volquartsen exact-edge extractor. For $20 and a 10 minute install, it's worth it.

Ditto.

I installed the VQ extractor on my 597WMR straight out of the box (I actually bought it before the rifle) and have never had a FTE ...not ever.

As for FTFs, I use the latest generation of metal 597 factory mags and have never experienced a FTF.

...accuracy is pretty darn good as well!

I'm completely satisfied with the rifle.

Except those problems, you won't be disapointed. I give it a try a 100 yards and it makes good groups, even with the wind. give me a few week and i'll come with news with the extractor changed!

i've got a vq extractor on my 597, and i still get the odd stove pipe every now and then.
maybe 1or 2 in like 500 rounds.
But only with remington ammo.
work flawless with dynapoints.
