Does anybody know if any manufacturer is still pumping out a rifle in .257 Roberts? Been looking forever but can't afford to do a full custom job. Any help is much appreciated

Cheers,
J

Why not put a WTB on the EE. Might find a M77 or similar. Seems brass is in short supply so I would start on that as well.

If you do end up building one, a Remington Mountain Rifle is a good place to start for a rebarrel. That's what I did for mine.

They grew up and became 25/06s lol

As mentioned earlier if it's a have to have and money is an issue re barrel a savage. Get the gun then the barrel then the stock. That's what I'm going to do with a 358 win if I ever get my house redone

You're right, the 243 is for fhe unwashed but it's every bit as good as the twofiftysevenroberts for deer hunfing.

Well now... I love my .243's... but I wouldn't say they are "every bit as good for deer hunting..." The Roberts definitely has an edge in two or three categories, maybe four.

Thanks for the replies Nutter's! Much appreciated. Now who can tell me more about this re-barreling process? You can PM me to keep this thread from constantly going back to the top.

Cheers again,

J

Both spit 100gr bullets at about the same velocity.
The 243 is offered in far more current factory rifles.
The 243 fits perfectly in a short action.
There is tons of factory 243 ammo everywhere.
243 brass is easier to find.
There is a far bettter selection of 6mm bullets for hunting, varmints and long range shooting.
Other reasons I havent thought of yet. :)

It's easy. All it takes is a bit of planning and a bunch of cash.

Buy an appropriate rifle that you are comfortable with.
Order a bbl that is the same contour as above rifle so it fits properly into the stock.
Pay a good gunsmith to install bbl.
Find some brass and buy a couple hunnerd pcs.
Purchase remainder of loading kit.
