Where art thou .257 Roberts?

Does anybody know if any manufacturer is still pumping out a rifle in .257 Roberts? Been looking forever but can't afford to do a full custom job. Any help is much appreciated

Cheers,
J

Ruger No 1 RSI.

Epps has had one for sale FOREVER. At least nine months now it's been on their web site, and that's just the first time I noticed it.

Though at the price it's listed at, I can understand why. I think it's even gone up, I swear it used to be listed at the usual $1100 ish

But if you're looking for a .257, there's at least one out there right now.

Ruger just manufactured the .257 RSI's, so they can't have had it much longer than that.

whatever will be will be, but don't ever buy a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in the Bob. The accuracy just ain't there in any of them, it's just a fact of life! That combo never did connect. For proof, search Ed Matunas (may need correct spelling) and the books he has written.

Funny, I have a 257 bob in a model 70 featherweight, I Don seem to have any accuracy issues

The .257 Roberts was the 2014 chambering, they were on shelves over a year ago now. Epps has had it since at least late last year. That's bordering on forever for me in terms of turning over inventory.

They're for sale on IRG too. The price difference even after exchange will put you a couple of hundred ahead of what Epps is asking.

I owned one of the Remington 700 Classic models in .257 Roberts the year they came out (1982 if memory serves me correctly). Put a pile of rounds through it then sold it to a member of my gun club. As far as I know it is still going. 1980 was the first of 10 years I hunted in Wyoming. That year I used a Remington 700 Classic in .243. Before going I put 800 rounds through the rifle. I wanted to be comfortable with the longer ranges I expected to be shooting out west. I killed my first antelope on the first mornings hunt at, as I recall, 145 paces. This was before every body used those laser range finder thingies.

On antelope and small mulies I could not tell any difference between the .243 and the .257. I think the .25 calibre barrel would likely last a little longer though.

Ruger didn't start shipping the No.1 RSI .257 Roberts until July 2014... and I believe PR got the first batch... although it ia possible they split the shipmemt to multiple retailers.

Only a 257 Roberts is a 257 Roberts...I love them...

Agree with this and decided to keep mine.
However, I'm now looking for a synthetic stock for it.
The wood on it is really good but I'm thinking maybe I can shave a few ounces off the weight with a 'glass stock.
Unfortunately trying to find a synthetic stock for a '76 vintage tang safety rifle is like looking for a chicken with teeth...

How do you feel about the "canoe paddle" stocks? I might be able to scare up one of those...

I would have no problem whatsoever with one of those.
Let you in on a secret..... I was hoping to find one of those as I don't think there is a more tougher and functional stock.
And best of all I would still have the pretty wood..

I will get ahold of the fella I sold it to... he was just keeping it as a spare and waffled on the purchase, so he may let it go.

I had one of these stocks for my Ruger and in the summer when the stock got warm my rifle would not shoot at a group at all.
In the colder weather it was great. Went back to the wood stock and all is right with the world.

I have had more than a dozen canoe paddle stocks... shot them year round and never had shifting POI with any of them... maybe you had a bad stock?

Could have been hoyt, It's gone now and I am happy with the original wood. I did have to do some work with the original stock to get it to shoot properly but now that it's done I am more than happy.
I found the magazine box was binding the action (as I have found with other Ruger's as well) when you tightened the screws and the barrel was also touching the stock and I had to work that over a bit as well.
Did all that to the canoe paddle as well but found that when it was in the sun it warmed up so much that you could twist the fore end really easy.
My 257 BLR has shot great with every load that I have used, Usually 1" to 1 1/4" as long as i do my part. It shoots better than the 243 and 308 that I had and the 358 was almost as good as the 257.

No way. They were on shelves in April '14. 100% There's many an initial report out there from late Apr - early May.

In any case, July 14 is indeed just over a year ago now, presuming we're talking a date prior to the 21st, so I'm not sure what the debate is here?

Like I say, Epps has had the thing FOREVER. At least if I was a retailer looking to turn over product I'd think nine months plus was forever. Priced at over $1700 now it'll be interesting to see how long it sits there.

The debate is that just over a year is not "FOREVER." As per usual, Ruger has their inventory distributed in the USA months ahead of Canada.

And if you think a year in inventory is "FOREVER" then take a few minutes to sort Epps inventory from "oldest to newest" they have had some guns for over a decade.

Ok, sure, but the margins on that $250 Knight Revolution will make up for carrying it on inventory that long ;)

That No.1 RSI .257 went into inventory on July 16, "2015"... not 2014.

They have had a Blaser S2 9.3X74R since 2009-03-19 @ $5699.

A Rem 1100 Sporting 20 since 2009-04-28 @ $1245.

My son was in sporting retail, this is not unusual... sometimes orders are placed based on the preferences of the individual ordering, who wrongly assumes that items that interest him/her will "go like hotcakes" in the local market... and they just sit there... waiting... and waiting... at any rate, a No.1-RSI in .257 Roberts is a nice piece... and it will sell.
