Where art thou .257 Roberts?

I shot a friends on a hunting trip probably 5 years back now? Took a mulie doe with it. Had to have one. Looked and looked. Finally found an M77 on the ee here and snapped it up.

Start stock pilling brass now or ammo now. The only factory ammo I've found for it so far are the Hornady Superformance 117gn SSTs. Does not like them much. Some of the Hornady custom which I don't think they make anymore. Shoots them alright. Remington 117gn yellow box. Its a round nose. And the Nosler at $60 a box. Aside from the Nosler its pretty rare around here. Ammo Source seems to have the Superformance and Core Lokt in stock pretty regularly though.

I managed to find a few bags of Remington brass and am in the process of working up a load with 100gn TTSX. Good luck finding your rifle.

You might be pleasantly surprised with the groups you get using a 100 gr. bullet.
The Ruger 257s that I played with would make tiny groups with virtually any 100 gr. bullet...... not so with any heavier ones..

A Rem 1100 Sporting 20 since 2009-04-28 @ $1245.

My son was in sporting retail, this is not unusual... sometimes orders are placed based on the preferences of the individual ordering, who wrongly assumes that items that interest him/her will "go like hotcakes" in the local market... and they just sit there... waiting... and waiting... at any rate, a No.1-RSI in .257 Roberts is a nice piece... and it will sell.

Well D'oh. I ASSUMED it was the same one they had back in the winter that I handled; they only had one listed then and only one now, so... THAT certainly explains the price jump; old vs new stock. It is a nice piece to be sure, but it'll be interesting to see how long it takes to move at that price. $1700 for a No 1 is... steep.

FWIW, I have had significantly better luck, accuracy-wise, with 100's than anything heavier (115, 117) in several 25-06s.

I picked up one recently... makes a good running mate for my 7X57. Roberts is the top rifle;

I have a 70 Feather, a beauty shooting rifle, now it will not group worth a chit on 5 shots as the barrel heats up quickley.
but the first and 2nd shots out of cold bore are touching with my rifle and the flier is only an inch away. FS
