WHERE can I buy a 16 inch REM 700???

I saw one in a local shop that I was considering. Here, in the US, they have a threaded muzzle and I buy my firearms as accessories for my suppressors. I decided against it , as I have a Ruger GSR that fills that role.

There is a reason that Remington stopped making the Rem 600 Mohawk....short little 308 carbines kick like a mule, make a big flinch causing flash and loose a lot of velocity.
If you want one of those I know where you can get one.

I guess with the "tacticool" market of today such charactoristics in a rifle don't matter so much as being cool looking...form over functionality has prevailed.

Just came back from a week long course, my brother was shooting a 18" .308 Rem 5R with a 10X scope. Printed one group at 500M, 4 shots into 0.9" the 5th shot opened it to 2.9". Gun hung in MOA most of the way from there to 1000M where he was hitting a 22" plate 70% of the time in decently windy conditions. With a brake and Limbsaver recoil pad the gun was more than comfortable to shoot all day for the 5 days. Form and functionality both acheived! ;)

Impossible. We all know that gun can't do anything but look tacticool without a 26" barrel (and walnut stock of course) ;)

If you already have a 700 a cheap blank can the way to go. Being able to chamber and install myself negates the obvious drawback of the increased cost. A CM Shilen chambered is about 450$ then cera/dura/arma kote it yourself, used action about 400$, takeoff stock 100-200,

Still looking about 1000$ by the time you are done but barrel should be better quality.

Indeed, that said, expensive barrel blank, and paying someone else to do it, 1500$ for the finished project, plus the cost of an action on top of it, 2000$. Definitely cheaper to look around and find the Remmy in the 16, or hell, even try finding a Steyr SSG with the 16.5 inch tube, which you might be able to do for less than 2k, but of course, according to some that would be insane, and unshootable with a 308 in a 16inch barrel...

1500$ for supply and chambering a premium blank?

no...broughton, krieger or shilen select match barrel chambered and installed 600-650$, action another 400-450$, rem r5 hs takeoff stock 300$

all depends what you want, lots of factory guns shoot fine but if you can't find the right chambering or other features it can be worth doing it semi custom

I picked one up off of Muskoka trapper early march. It was a sneaky find. Look around various LGS, especially one's which aren't particularly well known online... they might have one sitting on the shelves, just waiting for you to buy it.

Next time you are doing my rifle then, pleaseeeeeee. That said you are pushing 1500 in your pricing alone. Admittedly I recently went Lilja, but chambered, and some quick action truing etc, and its north of a grand, never mind refinishing, a muzzle break, and donor rifle etc. Mind you in a world where smiths are charging 150$ an hour, it aint as cheap as it used to be. Considering not long ago I had smith quote me 300$ to chop and recrown a barrel (!?!?!?!?!), and I realised I am getting to old or todays prices.

What kind of velocity can one expect with a 16" barrelled 308? Other than those that think it looks cool what is the advantage to such a short barrel?

Canadian Tire...

It would be illegal to chop your barrel below 18.5", yet, buying a riffle with a "factory" barrel below 18.5" is perfectly legal...

I picked up my 700 tactical AAC SD from wolverine 2 weeks ago. Loving it so far!
Mounted a vortex viper 5.5-20 in Leupold prw rings on weavers 1 pc base, works great!

Very nice. I bought the same optic for mine, so it is nice to see it looks good with it on :) what height are those rings if you do not mind me asking?
