Guys I think I've been every where in Edmonton looking for a work style bench that I could convert into a loading bench. Any one have any suggestions besides CT, Home D, House of Tools, I know you may suggest building one, but I ain't that handy and I'd like the look of a steel bench with a wood top. I 've got about 6 or 7 feet of wall to work with.
Thanks FS

bench

I know you said not cambodian tire. But i got one of these benches on sale (watch the flyers) for $69 and had a metal shop cut me a peice of 3/16 aluminum plate 2'X4' for the top($80 or so) . I countersunk sheetmetal screws every 6" and mounted my dillon 650 in the center(just clears the drawers). Super solid !!! Mounted a small flouresent light under the top hood.
I tell you its an awsome setup. just my 2 cents

I've also picked up one of thos benchs from Canadian Tire, 'cept that I bought the even cheaper, red bench for in and around fifty bucks.
At first I was thinking that I would need to fastin it to the wall, but I was wrong, I have found it to be very sturdy, so far I have reloaded a couple hundred rounds on it.
I like it so much I am thinking on buying another one so I can mount a progressive press and more goodies with out have to over crowd the one bench that I do have.
When I get back from werk this evening I will try and snap a few pic's.

Savation Army, find a nice desk, as suggested above.

Or make friends with someone doing house renovations and score some of the old cabinets that are going to be scrapped anyways. You can build a pretty nice modular workspace out of kitchen cabinets, and a bit of 3/4 plywood.
With a little planning, you can get the guys at the borg home store to cut all your panels to the right size when you buy it.
Two sections of cabinet (storage space) and a double layer of plywood, and you have a decent bench.

Cheers

Another suggestion for a desk or table is to look at a used office furniture place. I picked up a sturdy table and it was not expensive at all.

I wondering if that one was any good, cant go wrong for 50 bucks

I'm not handy either but I made a 6' X 3 1/2' bench from wood in an afternoon. Solid as a rock, custom built to fit my space and needs, can replace the 3/4 pressboard top any time I need to and can mount anything I want to it - vice, powder dispenser, press, case trimmer, etc. Shelves underneath for benchtop tools. It's really not that hard ;)

yes, I had all my measurements when I went to Home Depot and walked out with all my lumber cut to my specs.

I got a can tire heavy duty work station for $20 on sale, Product #55-6820-2
I mounted a 3/4 piece of board on top. I mounted the progressive on it and powder throw. Next project is to get casters so that I can put the single stage on the back and sides so I can rotate the bench depending on what i'm loading.

Also have the work bench in the pic, and my single stage just clears the drawers.

Play safe,

J

also ck out the alberta gov't surplus stores- there's a treasure trove of stuff in there that nobody knows about( well they do now) desks, lockers, chairs, typewriters,

i live in an apartment and i went to a thrift store and bought a bedroom dresser, It gives a lot of open top space, drawers for equipment and supplies, and fits nicely into my inside storage compartment. cheap too $20. A simple shelf system added at the wall provides storage and holds a flourescent light above the work area. If it is not tall enough, just add legs to the corners.

I looked for a link, but cannot find a picture. I was in UFA Co-op in Stettler 2 weeks ago and they had what I thought to be perfect benches for reloading/gunsmithing. Hardwood top, silver painted steel bolt together frame of decent guage metal ( makes the pictured Can Tire blue bench look like the cheap toy it is). Lockable side drawers of a good tool chest quality under the right hand side. A steel pegboard back with a shelf above it. The top measured over 24" deep ( I think 28" -ish) by 4'6" -ish. Absolutely stunning bench for $350.00.

Yup, old desk is the best choice. Almost got one from work but was too late. Was already claimed. So I went and got one of those folding leg tables at the office supply.

It's good because the rear bolt on my presses line up with the metal frame so it's reinforced. If it went through just the pressboard, I'd be in trouble. Works ok for now. Plan to glue/screw some plywood under the pressboard top to make it stronger.

Ya that was what I was thinking when I picked up the bench.
At first I wasn't to impressed, all bolt together and each piece of the bench was some what flimsy before assembly, but once I got it together and set in place then started reloading on it my opinion changed, turned out to be a nice and sturdy bench, even when I am resizing .270 short mag cases. The only thing that I want to change is the top shelf, it is not wide enough to hold the boxs containing my reloading dies, I want to make it wide enough to hold the dies and my reloading manuals, this should not be a problem for me seeing as I work in a sheet metal shop.......
Sorry still no pic's, need to pick up some batteries for the camera, will try and get to it this week.

My reloading table is just that.... an old steel legged dinner table that almost everyones folks had in the 60's and 70's. Has 3/4 inch plywood for the top with that plastic type sheet covering. Sturdy, durable and easy to clean. Got it at a garage sale for $10.00.
