Where can I buy KahlesK642i? Seek advice

Looking to get a really good scope. The more I study the higher the cost goes!

Function: Precision Rifle shooting competition style shooting, longer range hunting from a stand ( on either a RPR 6.5Creedmore or my Steyr SSG PII in 308.

Narrowed it down to 4 scopes:

1-VortexRazor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56 with EBR-2c reticle + cheapest of the bunch by almost $1000, - new company, -lot's of U.S. hype, +/- resale value when I decide to take up antiques and bridge new hobbies.


2-Nightforce ATACR 5-25 F1 Horus reticle $4387

3-Schmidt&Bender PMII 5-25x56 Horus $4630 with the stuff I'd want on it.-heavy, - most expensive, + best resale

4-Kahles K624i 6-24x56 CCW with SKMR2 reticle cost? $3500-4000 I guess, can't find a Canadian source.

I read the long thread on high end scopes on here. Between that and the Precision Shooting sites/"Sniper sites it is hard to separate fax from fanboy noise. Most of my shooting is done solitaire and I have no need to impress, just want something that actually works like it's worth all that coin.

I'd like to shoot some matches for fun, but I will not be running around a whole lot and shooting from too many weird positions, I just don't bend that way anymore.

Some treasured toys will need to be sacrificed for this venture ( already sold a bunch to pay for an upcoming hunt).So I have to really convince myself it's worth the cost.

Your honest opinions in a gentlemanly manner would be greatly appreciated. Or simply tell me to forgetaboutit and just go hunting! That answer would be just as useful too.

Wow... that is a lot of information to provide.

I am a huge fan of Sightron and Nightforce. Great track records. Great Glass and Repeatable.

Vortex, not too impressed. Decent tracking (not as good as NF or SGTRN) but the prismatic distortion (colour diffraction) at the edges caused my migraines (due to eyestrain) to go into full fetal mode.

No experience with the other brands listed.

I have used a Steiner Military 5-25 before and was very nice, but ended up selling it. I have just started to use the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56 and one of the main reasons I like it is its functionality. This may be a personal thing but I really like how the turrets work, feel etc. The reticle also really appeals to me. I understand that there may be "better" glass out there in your list but at this level the glass is close enough where the other features may play a bigger role. But that is up to you to decide.

If I could have had a chance to try the Kahles, i just might have gone with that as it is pretty much everything that I was interested in yet a fair bit lighter than the Vortex. Which is my only thing I can say about it, is that it is heavy.

I have not used a Nightforce, nor the S&B. I did handle them at SHOT but that's about it.

I purchased a bushnell elite tactical 3.5x21x50 34mm tube. G2DMR retical. FFP. Locking turrets.
I got it at a local shop for a smoking deal. They had one more to sell. $1500 everything in.
I rated very high on the precision shooters blog.
Bushnell also makes a 6x27x56 in the same model.
Draw backs are. At 21 power it is a little hazy. On my .223 I'm rarely on that setting.
Sitting looking at it, it is not the most attractive scope. Looks short,stubby looking
Finding 34mm rings and mounts were a #####.
High points. Very clear glass
Retical is great. It's very fine at the low powers and still small at the high
Great locking turrets that have a good feel between bumps
I shoot more now with this rifle because of the scope is so nice to use. Should have done this years ago

I recently went through a similar search though I had a few more entries on my list including US Optics, Leupold and Steiner. Ultimately, in my discussions with Patrice from CADEX, I ended up getting the Vortex over the NF, which at the end, was what it had been narrowed down to. Looks like the Vortex and the Kahles should be pretty comparable in price.

I had the Vortex out for the first time last weekend and the clarity is absolutely superb. The turrets have a fantastic feel to them, which may be important. The only issue I can see would be weight, as I believe it is the heaviest of the bunch. This wasn't an issue for me as my rifle was already a tank, but may be for somebody who is concerned by the weight of their rifle.
