Like the topic says, I'm looking for cheap military surplus 7.62x39 ammo. Corrosive or non-corrosive doesn't matter. My range (Burlington) recently banned all steel core bullets so it's going to be really expensive shooting my VZ-58 now unless I can find cheap milsurp lead core ammo.
Where can I buy milsurp 7.62x39 without a steel core?

Your best bet is raising the point at the next BoD meeting and sweet-talking them into reversing this idiotic policy. AFAIK all milsurp is steel core, can't seem to source MFS ammo which you might be able to get at twice the cost - might be cheaper to add another club with an outdoor range and give'er.
MFS Ammo is what i use non corrosive lead core but muticased so some indoor ranges still ban it

At BRRC, certain elements will be on you like white on rice as soon as they see you take out an SKS, an 858 or anything else that has commonly available steel core ammo. Chances are that on the day the ban was announced, they ran out to buy 3 magnets each - 1 for their card holder, 1 for their pocket protector and a spare in case they happen to lose one. If you're shooting steel jacketed projectiles, you need to have a cut bullet on you to show them or they'll file a safety infraction and then you gotta deal with committees and all the crap. You might anyway, but this way you have a chance to send them away sulking and trying to think up other ways to make people shooting "junk commie guns" leave their club 
The Romanian ammo and the Yugoslavian ammo I have purchased is lead core.
Some Romanian is steel core. There is a letter on the printing on the wood box that tells you which is which.
The brass case ammo is lead core.

I've also picked up some Hornady SST that comes 50 to the box. It was about $35.00. Not as cheap as surplus, but not super expensive.
M67 milsurp (Yugo stuff) is lead core. Haven't seen anyone carry it in Canada.

Any 122 grain projectile going 2500 fps will kill ,, i dont care what its made of lol.. Steel core was made to penetrate light amour better ..
Not necessarily correct for all steel core ammo, either.
The Russians used steel for economic reasons, not for piercing barriers. Same reason they use steel cases instead of brass. Cost and resource availability.
