Was wondering if I would be able to buy a .45acp cylinder on its own to go with my .45LC (should have bought the convertible kit originally - darn), and if so, what dealers have it.

Try calling Snapshots @ (450) 427-0052. They are the Canadian repair depot for Ruger and should be able to get you any Ruger parts.

they're going to INSIST that you send the revolver back to snapshots or the factory for fitting( timing) the new cylinder, which is probably a GOOD thing- you don't want the cylinder mis-timed- frankly, i've had the convertible for over a year now and have yet to use the 45 acp cylinder- i'd say forget about it unless you have scads of 45 acp ammo- but if you absolutely must have it-
carole petrie - snapsots@videotron.ca- part no is mr-1-45a

How much...

is getting the timing setup going to cost? Ballpark is ok
I have a lead on a cylinder but that in itself is more than I was hoping, this additional cost may void my interest.
Thanks for any help

the only way to know for sure is to e-mail or cal snapshots- or find a smith that can do it-if you've already got a line on the cylinder, i'd go that route- there's shipping and turn-around time involved, regardless of where you go- and i've already expressed my feelings on viability

T-star is correct about the folks wanting to fit the cylinder. It's not rocket science, but it does take some careful figuring before you pick up your tools. I have 7.5" 45 Blackhawk with cylinders in 45 Colt, 45 ACP, and 45 Win Mag that I've set up this way. It's a good shooter, but aside from the unusual factor, there's not much real reason to do it. Still fun though. - dan

My experience with a factory .45 colt/ .45 Acp combo was that the .45 ACP was not as accurate as the .45 Colt. because of the long jump the bullet had to make in the cyl. Todays' .45 Colt can be loaded down with Trail Boss to as low as you want to go. I don't like to have to use diff. sight holds on one gun, I prefer to pick one load that shoots to point of aim and stick with it, another cal. would just complicate things. IMHO.
