While I love the look of the classic 20 rounder in the M14, when I sling up and get ready to get ugly I like the dedicated 5 rounders. The sling kinda grabs at the longer mag but clear the short ones better for me. Which of our fine feathered suppliers is the best for these items? Do you have a preferred supplier for them?

I suppose I could get them direct from Springfield Armoury but would rather not...

Go to Milarm downtown. In their surplus room they have a whole box of them. No prices though. There's a $250 price tag on a norinco plastic takeoff stock with no metal, so you might get a ridiculous price. Sometimes they'll bargain. It's likely that whoever you meet at the counter won't even know what it is.

Springfield doesn't sell 5 rounders.
The original Springfield Armory mags supplied are 5/10 round mags.
5 round mags are flush fitting and are virtually impossible to extract.

Wow, what a great idea, Magwedge Ind fellows! I'm impressed. Great for hunting even if you only use the one side. Hmmm... CQB intentions? This would be a pile of fun.

Cheers and thanks for fueling the addiction!

That's exactly what I did. I only have the one 5 rounder, I use just the one side. Gives you just enough extra real estate to really grab onto. Slick little units, these.

SA Inc. do make and sell 5 round mags for the M1A. There are a lot of States with the daft 5 rounds only for hunting rule. They're listed under Store, then M1A Rifle Accessories, then Magazines. $39US each. There's a "box" and a "sporter" 5 round mag. The 'box' looks like a 10 rounder that has been gelded. The 'sporter' looks like it was made that way.

Marstar lists 'em, but are sold out.
If you opt for a Stateside seller, don't mention the M-14. No exports of M-14 parts.

and there are 5 round drill /parade3 mags as well- I've got 5 of them- they're made to " fool" the public into thinking your parade guns are garands instead of m14s- these sit FLUSH with the stock- just part of the "kit" I've acquired over the years
