I live in the Kamloops area of BC and there is no local supply of .308 surplus that I know of. Anyone know where I can get some? Would prefer not to have to ship it too far.

I know the powderkeg has 20rd boxes for 11.25 but that is a little steep for non reloadable surplus in my mind.

Any help would be appreciated!

A few of the Dealers out in the West have Portuguise 308, for around $350.00 per case of 1000 plus shipping.
But be carefull, it's steel jacketed, which may be a little hard on your bore.

Edit: Didn't know what the hell I was talking about. My apologies to IDPACONVERT.

CURESE (JOHN) JPAR@SHAW.CA

There you go, that is the average price (good).

If you see his post too late you can check out Del Selin in Vernon to see if he still has some Port left.

Well, there you go. I stand corrected. I suppose I should have checked the stuff I have before opening my yap. Mea culpa.

I understood IDPA to be saying that the outside of the bullet was exposed steel with no plating.

I don't think I would fire it in a match stainless barrel, but most milsurp carbon steel barrels wouldn't have a problem with it. Its realy soft, and actualy I would be concerned more about posiblility of the steel actualy fouling it like copper does? The brass looks realy high quality, to bad its not reloadable... Maby I will melt down the empties into something.

So is this Portugese stuff with mild steel covered by a copper wash hard on bores or not. I have some and am now wondering how abrasive it is? or does mild steel mean it is no differnt than commercial ammo? I would appreciate the opinion of the those who know. I shoot it in sporters ie wincester pre 64 and a remington 700 which may have soft bores relative to military rifles.

McMaster-Carr book says Alloy 260 Brass (Cartridge Brass) has a Rockwell Hardness of 60~77B, while A36 Carbon Steel ( a mild steel) is 68B.

So they can be the same.

Of course I don't know what kind of steel they used. Any mechanic can test it?

I talked to a gunsmith today regarding the Port. Milsurp ammo (78-20). He says they produce very good quality ammo and it shouldn't damage the barrel as it is copper jacketed just like a normal hunting SP lead core.

He also said the reason everyone (ammo importers) is having a hard time getting milsurp ammo these days is that for the past 2 years the Lib's have been denying/delaying the import permits for that type of ammo. It had something to do with the UN small arms deal the Lib's signed on. With the conservatives running the show we may see that change.
O.

Nope, permits take 2 weeks. The reason we don't see much ammo in Canada is money. It takes a lot of it to be in the surplus ammo game. Countries don't sell surplus in 10,000, or even 100,000 round batches. They sell it by the millions and millions, and they want cash. Anyone with a spare $500k want to double their money in a year, give me a call (seriously ). I have ammo deals lined up, but only so much cash to work with, so it takes time. Also, if you buy ammo and dump it in the US, you get your profit much faster than selling it in Canada.

Group buy!!!! :D ;)

X 500 :) :)

A Canadian Ammo Co-op is a good idea!

Let's make it happen.

500 people at $1000.00 and you can double your money or get your money back with 5 cases of surplus:D
