Yes, I go down to Washington regularly to shoot and have handled and shot many AKs from many countries and in both 7.62 and 5.45. I like the rifle, but the CZ is just much better in every department except perhaps not being able to stack up in the extreme reliablility area. Perhaps the "toy" impression you get is the wood/resin furniture on the CZs. I didn't like it and replaced mine with wood as soon as I could, which made it a much more controllable shooter.
I agree that it's the furniture that really ruins the CZ rifles. Replacement is mandatory, then you can take it seriously.

Each rifle shoots different. I have seen good shooting SKSs, and VZ858s. Never an accurate AK though, and that includes the valmets I have owned(and sold) over the years.
Exoce† has been doing well in service rifle competition out to 500m with an 858. Bone stock with czech ammo.
I imagine it would do nicely in CQB rest the bayonet on the target stuff as well. seams to point quickly anyway.

It is only a fair comparison if you compare the CZ to the SKS-D. Once you get four AK mags for the SKS D it really isn't that much cheaper. I know some SKS's shoot great but it is hard to dispute that the CZ is much more accurate overall.

We received a small shipment about a week ago and all have been sold. We called everyone who had one on back order and most were sold immediately with only one or two hitting the rifle rack. We are now on back order with Wolverine to get a supply from them with every shipment they get in. Phil.
for some reason , dealers dont like emails i think !!! I dont have a home phone , only a cellphone so im not gonna call each and every one of them . PMd frontier a month ago and they said they keep one for me and forgot about me . emailed several other dealers with no response . I think im going to forget about it !!
