I need some Brass shimming material to shim some military surplus rifles and I don't know where to find it at a reasonable price in Canada. Any help is appreciated.

Docap has it in 6"x100" rolls from .001" through .010" then in .005" increments to .030"
I have some leftover bits of .001" and .002", how much do you need?

Any place that sells tools and supplies for machine shops, will have the stuff. Your idea of reasonable and theirs, might not be in the same book, let alone on the same page, however.

But that is where you will find the stuff reliably.

Thank you everyone.

I wouldn't have thought to check hobby shops for RC planes/cars and I didn't actually know there was a Lee Valley in Vancouver.

Cheers Gents.

There are two Lee Valleys down there.
One on Marine Drive and the other out by Ikea
on the flats just off the Trans Canada coming into Vancouver.
Just south of the Port Mann Bridge.

If you're in Vancouver there's a model railroad specialty hobby shop located on 12th Ave in the big box building just west of Renfrew on the north side. Can't recall the name. In any event they or any other model railroad or model airplane hobby shops as well as a few of the better plastic model shops will have K&S variety packs of shim stock with small sheets of a few sizes.

Another handy source of good quality metal shim is the side metal on pop and beer cans it's actually darn good quality aluminium and every time I've ever checked it's .010". And it's hard enough that it doesn't crush easily. Same for roof flashing aluminium. And of course there's various sizes of food and other goods metal containers.

I know that these sources are not brass shim but I think you'll find that the cost of buying a roll of the stuff in enough sizes to have a nice assortment gets up there pretty fast.
