Where can I find soft point 7.62x39?

Sure it does. It has a steel jacket. Haven't broken out the SKS in a while and my new range allows steel core/jacket so I'll finally be able to use some of the MFS I've had for a while.

I know, that's what I said....not entirely sure why you quoted me, unless you mis read it..

It's easy enough to find crates of military surplus FMJ but those are illegal for use of the range. If I want to grab my SKS and go inna woods, I would need soft point ammo and I haven't been able to locate any. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction?

Just to be clear, FMJ surplus is 100% legal to shoot in the bush. It is only for big game hunting that you will need expanding bullets.

I was reading on my local forum, and they were saying FMJ can't be used in an area frequented by wildlife. Not sure if it holds any weight or not.

Ah, I should have qualified my statement. In Alberta, expanding ammo is required only for big game, FMJ is legal for everything else. OP is in Nova Scotia and the east coast provinces seem to have some extremely draconian game regs, so FMJ may be illegal for target shooting in the bush. In NS is it even legal to target shoot in wilderness areas? It seems to me that one of the maritime provinces doesn't allow it at all.

Budget Shooter Supply has my endorsement. The site shows some 123gr brass cased SP ammo for $14 per/20 right now which is a great deal, particularly if you keep your brass and get enough gathered together to sell for reloading and recoup some of your cost. For a cost comparison corrosive surplus FMJ is about $.18 per round, and the brass cased non-corrosive SP is $.70 per round, so even with the resale of the once fired brass it's going to be significantly more expensive to use, but comparatively it's still a cheap round to shoot. I'm of the opinion that if you can find steel cased SP for a good price, consider yourself lucky and buy enough to do you for a bit before some guy like me finds out about it.

Personally I hoard any reasonably priced SP 7.62x39 ammo and brass cases when I can find them; I don't think the traditional ammo manufacturers are going to pay much attention to 7.62x39 unless the surplus FMJ ammo market dries up (unlikely), and there's a ton of SKS rifles chambering that round being sold these days, so finding SP isn't going to get any easier.

"...The local gun shops..." They'll order anything you want. How long it'll take depends on if their suppliers have any in stock. Be prepared to pay up front.
