where can I get a bull barrel for my 10/22?

Question: why so short? I see mention of 11.5 and 16 inches. Isn't that a little on the short side? What's the rationale behind a short 10/22 bull barrel?

22lr barrels achieve peak velocity around 10in or so depending on the load used. Anything longer and the bullet actually starts to slow down before it leaves the barrel.
Also the quicker the bullet is out of the barrel the shorter time for any variables like vibration and shooter error to detract from accuracy.
The bullet is well stabilized and achieved max velocity by 10 in or so so anything longer is harmful.
A short barrel is also less prone to vibration as well as there is less surface area to potentially create pressure points wherever it bears on the stock unless free floated too.

The only reason to have a barrel any longer than that is to provide shooter benefits like balance, muzzle hang, stabilization etc.
The mechanical and intrinsic barrel optimal length is around 10in.

In a less scientific area, short barrels are definitely "cooler" as they scream tactical/black ops/concealed/etc.
IMO Canada has a short barrel fetish with most firearms more so than Americans due to our being deprived of handguns for field play.

I am not only sold on the science of short barreled 22lr rifles but have a fetish for 'em as well. They are infinitely better handling, easier packing/carrying and plain KEWL too!
In a perfect world I would use a longer barreled pistol as a field plinker and a very short barreled rifle as well.

The most accurate and functionally mechanically accurate 22lr I have ever owned/used has been a Browning Buckmark semi auto 22lr with a 10in bull barrel. It is a perfect example of the optimum 22lr setup for barrel length and functional 22lr accuracy.
Browning actually now makes a compact rifle out of this pistol design.
That lil' bastard would cut .21 cal holes all day long @ ranges under 50m and I'm a less than great shot!! LOL

Ahhh. There we go, a little substance. Thanks. I'm looking to kit out a 10/22 I bought as a project gun, and keep an eye on threads like this one to learn what to look at. Thanks again.
