I just binge watched the Dirty Harry flicks, and now I want a S&W 29. I come to understand they are not built anymore and quite rare, is there any chance of getting one or is there a model that S&W makes now that is the equivillant.

I would love to ask a 2 litre if he feels lucky ya know?

Thanks,

Chris

If you go for an original Model 29 research the lineup, there's differences in the 29-2 and 3 that set the base value.

Good luck!

And they are great shooters... JP.

The summary of the above posts is that you were mislead. They aren't rare, they aren't hard to find, and a closely similar model is still in production.

There seems to always be one at any auction I go to, but they usually go for big bucks because everyone wants a Dirty Harry gun. That would be good a place to be looking though if you want one.

New model 29-2 show up time to time at Epps , they sell for 1181.00 + the works, i bought mine there... JP.

My neighbour has one he wants to sell (he's a CGNer). It's a 29-2 I believe, pinned and recessed cylinder. 8 5/8" or whatever barrel. It's not mint, though, it has definitely been shot.
Any idea what he should ask for it?
It's more of a gun for somebody who wants to shoot it than have a mint collector's piece.

This 29-2 is the most fun one can have shooting one handed full trottle 44 mag loads... Just a major fun factor... A keeper just for that... JP.

It`s funny ,when they first came out ,they sat on the shelves forever. Then the Dirty Harry movie came out ,and everybody wanted one ,and S&W couldn`t keep up with the demand.

When the people who bought them didn`t like the recoil, the pawn shops were full of them !

I just read that in an article in one of my gun mags recently ,it was a great read !

I myself wouldn`t mind one ,sounds like fun.

When I bought a lever in .454 Casull ,I thought I would like a revolver to go plinking with it.Afterwards I thought it would be kind of expensive ,just to shoot .45 colt with it.Full load .454s don`t seem like much fun to plink with LOL

When I first owned / shot S&W Model 29's in the 80's shooting full house .44's seemed kinda fun.

Not so much these days. Fav plinkers are 240 gr lead SWC reloads going out at about ~ 850 fps these days.
