I did some calculations for 308 and reloading.
Current prices as of Feb 2009.
Some variables:
-H335 for powder at 100$ for four LBS (you can buy higher quantities to save)
-New brass at 16.50/50pcs
-Primers at 32$ for 1000.
Without brass comes out to 39 cents a round.
With brass comes out to 72 cents a round.
Some benefits over SA surplus:
-Reloadable brass.
-Tailored to your rifle
-Good luck finding surplus at 72 cents a round (in the GTA at least).
Some detriments over SA surplus:
-The work
-Initial costs of press and associated doodads
-Brass may get chewed up by M14; how many useful reloads? (?????)
May be worth it.
Cheers.
