After reading the posts yesterday on the shortage of 7.62x51 ball, I made a call to my local gun dealer and to my surprise he had 2 Belts (280) in total and it cost me $189 for both belts. I feel lucky because they were convinced it would be quite awhile before they recieved any more.

Can anyone identify the country of origin of this ammo (7.62 x 54)?

It is written in Cyrillic alphabet but I don't think it is Russian. Maybe Bulgarian ????

The bottom of the round contains the numbers 188 and 46.

A quick web search revealed this...

Okie, you have Soviet (Russian) ammo made in 1946, I don't know the arsenal however.

Made by Russians, repackaged by Yugoslavians. The M908 is the designation for the 'new' Russian round of 1908. If it were Yugo made, it would be M30 (J), and dated anywhere from the sixties to the early nineties. DDA

The word before 3PHOM is the bullet type, e.g., ball, AP, tracer, etc. Don't know what CAAAKHM, or the others are yet.

Although 188 indicates USSR manufacture, my reference is saying 'KOMADA' and 'METAK' as Yugo packaging identification. Could be ammo made in USSR for Yugo.

This is PMC ammo. It's factory loads. They "had" South African 7.62X51mm Match surplus for $645.00 for 1260 rounds. I guess I bought the last case. If you want to buy half of it I'd be willing to part with it PM me and let me know.

That South African ammo is not "Match". It's just regular ball.

Then I guess the writing on my case is a typo then.

I second that, with all the M14S that just got in, a significant increase in imported 7.62x51 is now mandatory

Find me a good price on a cache of 7.62x51 and I'll make sure you have a nice Christmas. It has to be outside of North America...

Some members were disputing whether or not SA surplus is match ammo.
The ammo certainly is not match ammo quality.
The case on the other hand is marked as if SA surplus is indeed match ammo.
