I'm a newbie to black powder shooting and just purchased a Lyman great plains hunter flintlock in 50 cal and am looking for a black powder source. 2f,3f and 4 f if possible. if there is no sellers in Ontario, maybe some can suggest another province or maybe travel to the states if its not illegal to bring back over the border. also ,I am referring to real black powder not a black powder substitute, since from what I understand they will not work in a flintlock. thanks in advance for all and any help.

Check out the GO-ex website to see if the dist. is still in St. Catharines, I forget his name but he had a skeet range as well, good guy great prices on 25 lbs. of real black Powder.
I get mine here in Sask. from Becky at Hillfolk Muzzle loaders Supply, I use Swiss BP, but I understand that it is legal to bring back 8 lbs. from the USA, has something to do with their export laws. They don't consider muzzleloaders as guns or some such....don't quote me on the USA info....Ben

Hummason Mfg. on Trinity Rd just outside Brantford is a Goex dealer. lots of reloading supplies too.

Yes, Gun Mart, owned by Brian Dwyer, usually has some. His number is 613-342-4037. The prices there are really high in my opinion, partly due to the shipping of Hazmat in Canada.. I paid $32,00 for a pound of FG about a year ago..... but he is handy to you. Buying in the USA may be an option. There are no restrictions on the export of black powder from the US and you can bring 8 Kg's in one pound containers through Canada Customs on each trip. Goex was about $14.00 and Swiss about $23.00 on my last trip.

thanks for all your help, and I will check these places out. I am impressed with the thought of getting some from the U.S. if the prices are that much lower on powder I am surprised more shooters don 't take a yearly trip if they are close to the Canada/U.S border..I am guessing gun shops are easier to find in the states then up here, so a trip might be worth the effort..

Accurcy Plus in Peterborough and Williams Arms in Port Perry both stock GOEX black powder.

I'd call Buffalo Gun Center in Buffalo, NY and ask what they carry.
