Where di all the Speer bullets go?

Decades ago you used to find those yellow plastic tubs everywhere, and the Hot-Cor was a pretty good cup and core bullet. I used to love using the 85 gn BT in my .243- took a lot of blesbuck and springbuck with it. Fast forward to the present, and Speer bullets are in short supply- and I'm not talking about the current component shortage- even in good times they are hard to find.

What's the deal? Is it a geographical thing? I'm on the East coast- maybe they don't really get out here? Any ideas?
 
I would hesitate to say they are plentiful here in the west, but I still see them on retailers shelves.
I laid in a quantity of their 30-30, 170 grain HC bullets, since both of my 30-30 rifles shoot them very
well, and the deer must hate them, cause they are deadly on them. :) Dave.
 
Blount Industries/Speer/RCBS/Outers is under ATK ownership/management.

ATK is a US Dept of Defense contractor.

ATK is not anyone's friend in the shooting sports community.
 
I can't find hotcore around for many calibers either, just their cheaper basic cup/core which I'm not a huge fan of.
Grand Slams are just as hard to come by.

This may or may not be the exact Speer projectile that you are looking for but it might be.

Like everyone these days they do have delays getting stock from the US, if you order something that is out of stock you have a wait on your hands. If they have it in stock they'll ship it right away.
The .243 - 85 Gr. Jacketed Soft Point Boat Tail bullets I linked to above are in stock as of right now but they may be gone fast because components go fast when they come in.

Hornady has diversified more than Speer. Gone with the new cool styles. Only bullets Hornady makes that seem to be any good are the 143edl-x and the 140 Eld-m.
last bunch for 168gr "Match" were far from. Weights from 164-170grs.

Besides those 2 I would take a Speer any day over the Hornady.

There has been many animals shot with the hot cores and Grand Slams. Even the boat tails hold their own. I just got 2000 of the 168gr, they are just as good if not more consistent than the Sierras Match Kings.

That's literally just a matter of them being available IMHO. I shoot Hornaday for things I don't care about like the Enfield just because of availability. I prefer speer over Hornaday any day of the week. That said, with the price Hornaday is up to I go out of my way to order in Speer now.

Also, I wouldn't expect to find speer for for a while. Shortages etc. On something that was not always available in the first place.
