I got this beat up old soldier off the boards recently. No matching parts, no shellac, no refurb mark, & real thin blue on everything but the mag. Had not been shot recently unless someone shot it then reapplied cosmo. Had sand in the stock along with the cosmo. Anybody want to take a guess on where it spent it time after wwII? BTW the only way to get this thing to shoot poa is to fix the bayonet.

wood looks refinshed and the metal looks like someone took steel wool to it. i have purchased milsurps that were full of cosmo (except the bore) that the previous owner had shot regularily. some people are just lazy cleaning cosmo.

The wood is not refinished per say, I applied some tung oil after cooking the cosmo out dryed out the wood. Yes I know shellac is the correct finish but the tung oil replicated the cosmo soaked look & I didn't want it to look like a refurb. There is still a reminant or shellac near the action(redish BTW).

A large number of Mosins imported into Canada by International Firearms in the 80's came out of the Middle East. Shellac and bluing does not last long in the desert.
