Where do you buy your .22lr ammo?

For bulk stuff, Canadian Tire or WalMart. WalMart only carries Winchester, but Canadian Tire has a better selection. Remington, CCI, Federal, American Eagle, Winchester, Wolf, and the last time I was in I even saw Lapua.
If I want better ammo, I go to Accuracy Plus. It's a local gun store. Most of my ammo I purchase from them, and stock up on better quality .22LR. WalMart and Canadian Tire, I may buy a brick or two a year of the cheap stuff, or some of the smaller boxes if I buy a new gun and need to find out what it likes. They're walking distance from my place as well, which makes it convenient.

If you're ever east of home...

SFRC (sponsor above) has Federal Champion 525's and CCI Blazers 525's...both the same price (I think 24.00) and cheaper than Wal or CT.
They are just north of Kingston...there was another thread where a fella was doing a "cost effectiveness" of shipping it to Alberta...Hamilton's gotta be cheaper!

I do 90% of my purchases of .22 ammo from Wal-Mart. They carry Winchester brands and a variety of types. I found, thru testing all sorts of ammo brands, that the Winchester 333 bulk packs do the best job on accuracy when fired thru any of my gopher guns . At under $14 for 333 carts...it is all round the cheapest ( unless another store..like Cabela's or Wholesale... has a special price, but sure not often, if ever) and it sure does its job. Wally world is very close.

Le Baron in Markham ain't got much...:(

Haven't been there in a while. The staff in the gun "room" are not my cup of tea! That's just my opinion though.

Back to the topic;

I go to my local gun shop (precision arms) it cost $1-3 more but the people make the difference. I end up spending 1-2hrs just chatting it up - real friendly people. However, I also go to CT, Bass Pro when I get gift certificates and gun shows are always a safe bet.

buying 22 ammo

I have been buying my ammo mostly at Al Simmons in Hamilton . in there your dealing with someone who is into firearms and not some turkey at a walmart. I will buy my ammo at other shops sometimes but I don't like dealing with some of the crap that you have to at some shops . waiting for them to unlock the ammo cabinet. the stares you get when buying ammo and the chance of your name getting out when thier book is stolen at canadian tire like it has happened in the past . and then homes were broken into after.

support you local gunshops if you can.

" your dealing with someone who is into firearms and not some turkey at a walmart"

When you go to Wal-Mart, you are going there for the ammo( you know what you want)...not the guns nor knowledge....the salesperson is there to give you the ammo and make certain that the proper identity and PAL is present. The salesperson may not have real knowledge of firearms (unless he has his own) as Wal-Mart does not sell firearms ( and you know that fact). I go there to pick up cheap ammo, not to talk guns.

If it is knowledge and talking guns that you want, then go to the local gunshop and do that....as they surely do not have the volume of customer traffic that Wal-Mart has. The independent shop employees or owner can stand and listen in hopes that you may buy something else or mainly out of courtesy ( hoping you will come again).

my 2 cents worth.

Cabella's in Winnipeg. Last time I tried Walmart, they were all out, so I haven't looked in a long time. Canadian Tire doesn't seem to have good prices anymore.

As much as I hate cabelas gun staff they have decent prices on .22

They got Fed 525 packs for $8 cheaper than Canadian tire

And last time I was there they had American eagle 500 bricks for 19.99

Yup, I do not enjoy it either but last visit federal hollows were 21.99 a brick and A/E hollows 23.99 for a 400 brick. 19.99 for solids /500 brick. Sure will not be buying those again but had to try them in my guns...poorest groups I ever seen.

Just out of curiousity :) , what are you using in your .22's these days?

The AE .22LR solids are frighteningly leaded.....

Cyclone....I used Winchester 333s all the time before I got my "new to me"..Mossy 144lsb. It is going to be my gopher gun from now on. It is a heavy barrel target rifle and I thought I would try it and it would shoot all ammo within a respectful group. It certainly showed it liked the 333s the best as it shoots it within a 1/2 inch of gopher center. the federals shot about 4 inches and A/E not much better. All at 50 yards.

The Marlin 81s i used last year shot absolutely accurate with 333s and I had run them by many different brands also. some people do not like Winchester brand ammo but it certainly does right by me . once the gun is set for one ammo that shoots a good pattern, why play and change all your preparations. My guns like it so I use it. i do have many pics of its efficiency. Thousands down.

The gophers are the only one that have to worry about leading...lol...lol.
