Where do you guys by your 9mm bullets

Really have enjoyed my Campro bullets from Shooter ready and the local Calgary connection. I have gone through almost 12K of them never ran into a problem in the 9mm 124gr.

Will continue buying them for the current price.

Good luck with contacting them (combat masters, aka canadian BDX).

I emailed about buying ~5,000 rounds of 9mm about 2 months ago. Never heard anything. In asking around I was told that they don't deal with individual shooters anymore, they only sell to resellers.

Resellers pricing is usually around $88 per 300 rounds (29c each). I have no problem buying in quantities more than 300. It's too bad you can't buy direct anymore. I would have thought buying 5,000 rounds at once would get you into the 'bulk' category, but I guess not.

Who are you referring to?

Sorry, thought my post would be right under the one I was referring.

I was talking about combat masters, aka Canadian BDX. Edited my post to avoid confusion.

waste of time......I called them with inquiry of 15K 124 9mm ammo....
have been advised to contact their distributors, non of which had any of BDX ammo on hand at that time......

Yea, I don't understand.

I totally get why they don't want individual shooters coming by and buying 100 rounds at a time. Or even 1000 rounds at a time. Buy when someone wants to by 15,000 rounds at a time, it's pretty ridiculous that they won't deal with you.

I know when the Calgary Shooting Centre gets stock of BDX ammo, it sells out in very short order.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, check out "flys etc" in high river. I've bought 9mm bdx there before, and both times it's been in stock. Last time I was there it was $27 per bag of 100, but if you buy more than 6 or 7 (bags), he was willing to discount it a bit. (especially if paying debit or cash, not credit card).

Other than that, the steel cased 9mm from canadaammo.com seems to work ok too. I ran through 1,500 of it without any issues.

If you can sell everything that your manufacturing capacity can possibly produce through your preferred distribution network, why would you want to change anything about the situation?

I agree that it's frustrating, but it makes perfect sense to me.

the only issue to watch for with the Canada ammo steel stuff is it is also steel jacketed, so some indoors don't let you shoot it (sparks) and I don't allow it at my steel matches because it can cause damage to them

That is not true Konnie!

that WAS true 2.5 years ago.....their website had a contact info for local pick up.......so I called and got a redirection to "destributors"....
I didn`t know many of them, but 2 places I went were out of BDX ammo :(

other than that - great ammo for the money....I shot my first 3 matches with BDX 124 FMJs with great results :)

Because they'd make more money selling large quantities to individual people. As long as you're buying 10,000 rounds + I don't see why they wouldn't.

When they did sell to individuals, you paid more than if you were a distributor reselling it. So if they sell 15,000 rounds to a person at let's say $0.22 a round compared to 15,000 rounds to a distributor at $0.17 a round. The individual person actually buying the 15,000 rounds would make BDX more money.

I almost wonder how hard it would be to get setup as a reseller / distributor? If you got a bunch of people interested it could make for quite the cost saving.

re "reseller / distributor" question:
Walter Horby (see earlier in this thread for a post from him) has given me above and beyond service as a distributor in Calgary. He doesn't always have what I need on hand, but if it can get gotten from Canadian BDX, he can get it for me (and even sources stuff for me when Canadian BDX isn't able to produce sufficient quantities).

As far as "individual purchasers" go re quantities, I expect I'm nearly as high volume as they come.

Why not? They already have a preferred distribution network. Efficiencies and preferences. Sometimes as a business (or as a person) it's not worth making that extra money.

BDX has evidently decided that they would rather pay someone to distribute their product than have to deal with consumers directly. For us, it doesn't really matter why. They are good at manufacturing ammunition, and they want to stick to that. There could be a thousand reasons, but most likely they just don't think it is worth it to add a retail front.

Not to mention that operations like Walter's are already very good at distributing any BDX product they can get their hands on. So you want to start a co-operative to compete against Walter? Interesting. I think you should make your case directly to BDX. ;)
