I want to bed one of my rifles and I cannot find any devcon 10110 for less then 100$.... I was hoping someone could tell me of a place to buy it cheaper or another bedding compound I can get for around 50$. I can get it bedded by a gunsmith for like 130, why would I buy it for 100$..

Thanks!

Princess Auto sells tubes of instant metal. It is cheap like borscht. It was on sale last fall and I bought a dozen tubes. $2 instead of $3. It is a very good bedding compound. It has one problem. It only comes in one color, black.

You need to be very well prepared to use this stuff. It sets rock hard in under 10 minutes. It has the advantage of being in a stick form and you just cut off as much as required for the job with a putty knife, mix it up and put it in place. It doesn't run all over the place so no playdough dams are needed.

This stuff even sticks to plastic with only the least bit of surface roughing.

BE CAREFUL if you decide to try this stuff. It sticks to anything. You can't use enough release agent. I heat up a can of Kiwi shoe polish and smear it on very thick. Pam just isn't good enough for this stuff.

I played with it bedding several old Cooey 22s before doing a centerfire rifle. It is great stuff. I had a Ruger #1 brought in that had the screws stripped on the sight base. Used this stuff to fill in the holes and after gooping up the screws turned them into the holes. The threads were perfect and are still holding well after several hundred shots. It is chambered in 7mm Rem Mag.

It also repairs leaks in gas tanks and fills cracks in cast iron to stop leaks. I suspect it would do the same on aluminum castings.

I went out to the shop and brought in a tube. It's made by VersaChem and marketed as Magnum Steel.

I havent had to buy any Devcon for a few years. Just checked back into it.

For Devcon 10110 (standard plastic steel)

- Ackalands - $105.78
- Greggs - $66.36
- Wajax (doesnt carry but can order)
- Motion - $63.68
- Century Vallen - $79.16

I asked if Acklands could do better with their price. He said that was the better price and it's usually about $130. YIKES!

I did buy some Marine Tex to try but I need the Devcon to touch up a rifle I've already previously bedded with Devcon.
