Hey all,

I have a friend who is looking to get a 50 cal rifle and he asked me to help him out. I am not sure where to even begin looking.

If anybody knows, any help would be great.

I was also wondering where in the heck would I get ammo for it? Do they sell is at Bass Pro or even Epps? What kind of a scope could he use for really long range shooting like 1 km?

Thanks

Well, there is the "banished one", he sells them. I think a couple of other places sell the Steyr built .50 as well. I'm trying to remember who...
At any rate they are $5500 and up. Add a worthy scope for another $1700-$2500 (Night Force or, even better, Schmidt & Bender) and up. Ammo is $10/each. That is $10 per shot. The reloading equipment is also very expensive, as a special press is required that will handle the huge case.

A 50 BMG reloading press and dies can be had at Higginson's for $230.00

Are you sure that is not the dies alone? The RCBS press alone is about $900.

There is one for sale at Elwood Epps in Orillia. I held it a few weeks back. Very nice. Its a Steyr HS 50. Also has ammo at about $10+ a round:eek: . I think the rifle is about $5900 + tax

Wowers

Why is everything so exspensive? I think he might take a run up to Epps and see what they have but $5900 + tax =

For a scope, I was thinking a VX-III long range was maybe going to be good enough but I guess not.

Well I will let him know.

Thanks guys for helping me out

There are other 50 cals.

You can get a 500 Jeffery or a 505 Gibbs!

But nothing is cheap at this level!!

1889, the Lee classic cast press (cast iron, not aluminum) is what Abman is referring to. The press has the large thread size for the 50 BMG and comes with a bushing so you can use standard dies as well. The press only is around$100 Cnd from Higginson's.

Well I talked to my friend tonight and told him how much. He said yeah it is expensive but worth it to him. He is going to look around and then he is going to drop some coin. He said he has a budget of around $8000 right now but that price could possibly go up for reloading equipment.

Damn is he ever lucky. I would have to think for 6 months before I bought a gun that expensive.

Well, if he can stretch it a bit more, tell him about the Accuracy International AI-50(IIRC) at Wolverine. That's the one that gives me a chubb every time I look at it!!! Of course, by a little I mean around $13000 (I think)!

Alberta is a bit far for a nice weekend drive to get a nice gun. Maybe something could be special ordered and sent here from there. I am going to talkt to my friend to see what is wants to do.
