I bought one of those recoil buffers for my m-14s. I needed to justify the postage so I beefed up my order with whatever I could find.

That being said I am a real m14s noob and have no idea where it goes...

I am off to go for a quick shoot b4 it gets dark and will strip the gun down whe I get home. If anyone could tell me I would much appreciate it.

It goes on your op rod spring guide and acts as a buffer between the op rod and reciever.

Remove the op rod spring guide/spring from the rifle............Remove op rod spring from the op rod guide and slide the buffer on, then replace the spring. Re-install unit back in rifle.

I personally have never used them.I don't think a well built/tuned M14 needs them IMHO.............;)

I have seen guys have functioning issues after installing these buffers.......................

SKBY.

Skullboy...... with the amount of shooting you have under yer belt with the m14 platform....... do you disagree with the buffer's use even on scoped rifles?? or would you bother? I haven't fully decided what scope to run.... something in the 4 to 10 or higher range. But my "keeper" rig for service rifle and for hunting blackies, yotes and other predators will be scoped. I keep hearing these buffers are only needed in scoped rifles but now that you have commented.... i'm starting to wonder hehehe

though i trust my shooting instincts and abilities for hunting.... I'm a crack shot with an enfield hehehe , with the m14 rifles..... i''m a builder more than a shooter so far in my journey ( 10 rifles so far past my bench... well personal ones anyways ). getting into service rifle is my next big step (doc911 asked me to be his partner ;) ) and so, I'll take yer guys advice ..... and along with the plastic sight protectors...... skip the buffer idea ;)
thanx guys

I just threw one on my scoped M14; it worked fine before (zero failures of any kind), but I figured if the buffer would reduce steel on steel banging then it would probably be a good thing for the rifle. If I start having problems I'll just take it out. For six bucks I thought it was worth while. I'll post if my rifle starts having hiccups.

Buffer worked...I guess. Rifle went bang target went ping.

I only put 20rds through as I had some .40 to burn through whilst my beer got cold. (Beer at home not range...The Squam range is about 3-5min from my humble home.)

Meh...I just wish the gas ring sight I actually wanted was included in the order. Everything else but the part I need showed up. :-(

The Recoil spring guide from Marstar really works well. I actually notice the difference. The chest rig makes me feel pretty damn KevinB ish but I am scared I might have to beat myself up if I actually wore it in the bush. Mags fit well though (USGI mags)

On with the show...
