Where does this leave us?

Modern Varmint
Modern Sporter
Modern Hunter

Are all non restricted still. Just checked the FRT database.

Has the status of the rifles on the list changed yet? For example has the AT15 changed from restricted to prohibited or the CZ Skorpion changed from non-restricted to prohibited?

Currently this leaves us holding our balls in our hands awaiting the ban on handguns . So by the time this is over we probablycan use a "slingshot and moth balls" a phrase originated by a member on another thread. Btw i only just realized that a 12 ga. Shotgun barrel is approx 18.5 mm that really close to the 20mm cutoff. And so much for my old 10 ga pump prohibited. So very very sad.

How do we explain the XCR then? it was it's own unique platform aswell, unrelated to the AR families.

If I were a betting man I'd bet that the XCR was targeted in an attempt to eliminate 10 round pistol mags. Pistol variant made no longer readily available = no more 10 round pistol mags.

Everyone is wondering why the XCR was hand picked for prohibition. Don't be fooled by the apparent randomness. There's always a method in madness.

Already banned, they're capable of launching a projectile with over 10,000J of energy.
Besides, why would a peasant need a trebuchet? If you're attacked, simply call for your kingdom's siege engineers.

If something nefarious does happen and you do call the cops hopefully a real one turns up.

No doubt someone will say "check their credentials / badge" but by the time you do that you'll be within spitting distance of someone you dont know with a sidearm.

Food for thought.......

This is my personal opinion only, others may think what they want.... The GTA vote was the result of the Butts effect. He has played that card for many years now but the jig is up. He even managed to get a hard core Muslim community to vote for a ### guy. Butts is good but has destroyed ontario and now the rest of canada. Trudope is just bumbling puppet following orders.

I can't believe they banned our bolt action .50 cal as well. S0 I have a single shot non restricted .50 that is now prohibited. This is bull####.

That only addresses 308 and 7.62x39 mags but yeah...

The criterias for banning the guns were : of modern design, capable of accepting large capacity magazines, sustain high rate of fire (semi-auto), and is present in large numbers on the Canadian market.

It doesn't matter wether or not its an AR variant. Didnt matter for the other 8 rifle types on the list, did it...

If I was a betting man, I'd say get the ATRS NRs while and if you can.... you're delusionnal if you think a notch in the upper and lower will magically make it safe from prohibition forever.

Youza.
The modern Varmint is not just a notch in the upper and lower...this rifle does not accept most AR parts including barrels. Not to say it can't be banned but it really is not a variant and was designed for hunting.

I heard the list is inclusive, just because it’s not on there doesn’t mean it wasn’t banned.

I recommend reading the list. That will result in a definitive answer which second hand information will not.

If it's on the list its banned. Sometimes what isn't said is more important than what is.

Here is a section by section, bolding is by me:

Sections 83, 87, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94 all state: "The firearms of the designs commonly known as... and any variants or modified versions of them, including..."

Section 95 states: "Any firearm with a bore diameter of 20 mm or greater"

Section 96 states: "Any firearm capable of discharging a projectile with a muzzle energy greater than 10,000 joules"

Section 4 states: "The upper receiver of any firearm referred to in item 87 of Part 1 of this schedule."

I can say this for certain: the Liberals want the Modern Sport and Modern Hunter on the list. Period. Debating if a firearm not listed is one of "any variant" will depend on how deep your pockets are and how long you want to be in court.

Aside from the now also prohibited lar15, and the xcr-l, what other 10rd pistol mags in 223 are coming in labeled for?

I was just referring to the XCR. The AR15 ban does cover 223. However, commonly available handgun has been held to include prohibited handguns in the past, although grandfathered ones.

Not like they need to be this sneaky, they can change the magazine regs via OIC too just as easily.

True, plus the rcmp decides to make up #### all on their own wrt mags

^^^ Very likely in my opinion.

It covers basically ALL the pistol mags. our AT15 10 round pistol mags for example: There is no longer an AT15 pistol readily available in Canada.

LAR15 5.56
AT15 5.56
XCR-L 5.56
XCR-L 7.62x39
XCR-M 7.62x51

The cross mags are marked AR15 pistol magazine... with no model, it leaves it vague, and uncertain yet all AR15's are prohib now.

We have it in writing from the RCMP, on the Modern Hunter's Firearms Inspection Report that is issued along with the FRT.
