I find now that with all the new developments going up in BC the large
un populated hunting grounds that I went to when I was a bit younger are now gone. Someone now owns it and has posted No Hunting signs up. This is a real hassle. So mutch that the guys I used to go with have now given up. Now I'm stuck looking for a new place to hunt solo:(

...And it's all crap - to live in BC and not take advantage of it's outdoors is craziness.

North is where it's at, I'd be there in a heartbeat

I'm in Langley and can hunt all day within an hours drive. There's so much area to hunt this side of Hope, but because it's rough country many drive right by it. You just need to look in a different area.

This is a good example of the urban perspective. If you dropped them into real bush, 50 km from a road they'd be crying for the sight of anything manmade after a day or two.

Canada's the 2nd biggest country in the world and most of it is really remote bush but you have to get away from the roads to see it.

Dose anyone know where to obtain up to date maps of crownland areas?

Drive an hour or so away from the coast, find somewhere to get off the HWY,chances are if it's not posted it's crown land.Any forest service rd's are a good bet,you can get maps of forests service roads at any forestry office's.

It's what a couple of hours to the Merritt area?Tons of crown land hunting around here.

Shush, there's no critters this side of Kamloops HONEST :eek:

Get yourself a reg 2 "Back country map book" also if you get a Fraser Valley special area hunting map from your retailer, it will give you a good idea of where the the city ends and the hunting starts!!

I have to say - if you're having trouble finding a place relatively close to Vancouver, you're not trying hard enough. I can think of at least 3 places within an hour of vancouver that people i know took good animals at within the last 2 years. And that covers east AND west.

If you're really stuck for somewhere to start - call the CO's and talk to them. They're usually pretty good about giving you some general ideas of where to start looking.

Those were good sugestions 1. contacting the co 2. buy a backroads book and maybe consider somewhere in van that prints crown publications for charts? or forestry maps. A newer gps with uploaded charts would help a lot for exploring new areas. Your right about land becoming scarcer in urban areas and urban hunting opportunities decreasing. You might find it a bit more challenging hunting new areas away from the city as well.

Register for free, use the layers to see what is crown, and what is not. It is an intensive map interface, but you can get exact GPS locations that you can load into your GPS.
