Hi

I'm planning a gopher hunt for next week, from Friday till Sunday. (can't make the CGN annual hunt the week after, unfortunately)
I asking if anyone can direct me to where the best areas for high density gophers. Starting from Fort McMurray, I'll be leaving Calgary on Thursday afternoon, so anywhere is a possibility. It'll be me and a friend, shooting rimfires.

I was south of Swift Current a few years ago, and it was good, but not nearly the density I expected.

Any leads?

Thanks in advance

There is a fellow in Kincaid Sask. that has been advertising in the Regina Paper, he wants folks to come and shoot his gophers, he has so many of them that they are destroying his fields/crops. That area may be a good place.

Kincaid, Glentworth, Aneroid, Mankota and surroundong areas. Try at the RM offices (county to you Alberta folks!), local cafes, Co-op farm stores, etc. I'm sure you will find a gopher shoot! Try the hotel in Mankota. The lady there has two brothers that were being eaten out of everything a couple of years back.

I have been shooting on one quarter section this year. In April, there approx. 2000 or more gophers shot off the one quarter, and I was there just the other day, and you would never know we had shot any gophers at all!

You can often stop and ask at a farm, if they don't have a place, the people will often point you to a good place. Needless to say, be safe, don't leave a mess behind, and no booze while shooting!! Most important - have fun!!:p

we have lots of gophers in the mankota, hazenmore area. give me a call and I' m sure we can find you plenty.Hey kjohn how was your shoot this week?

good to know, i'm keeping an eye out for a backup plan in case the annual shoot is cancelled. anyone know what they are like up in the meacham- humboldt area? i got family up there but it'll be a few days before i hear from them.

Wet, wet, wet! There are still gophers around but between the excess moisture and belly deep grass it's harder to find a quality shoot anywhere other then down south. If I was driving from out of province I would head to Kincaid.

Just below the rib cage... they are the thickest, doesnt matter is in Alta or Sask.
If you really think you are going to be able to thin them out or have enough ammo on hand to worry about where you are going to find the highest population of these vermin, you Sir are going to be driving around the flatlands for a very long time.
Get out in the Field and shoot is my advice.
