It seems like there’s a bit of a race in the optics department for who can come out with the best setup at the moment and not much of it seems to work together. I picked up a pair of Steiner epredator lrf binos thinking I’d be able to either pair my kestrel with the Steiner app, or at a minimum I thought the Steiner connect app would have a ballistic solver built in so I could range with my binos and use my phone for automatic corrections from the bluetooth connection. I have the binos here now and it appears I bought a pair of range finding binos with no other benefit. For the price I paid I’m still happy with the quality of the binos, but Steiner seems to want to hold their customers hostage to buy epredator rifle scopes. I can’t see myself replacing all of my riflescopes to Steiner just so I can use their binos.
Hopefully things become more universal in the future so all of this stuff works together. In the meantime I’m going to keep digging and see if there’s an app or something I can use to make these work together.
