Just came back from Russells;

2 years ago, 200gn .45 LSWC were $70 for a bucket of 1000.

Now they're $92 for the same bucket!

There's no Remington or Winchester bullets; and ammo seemed really expensive ($14 for a 20 round box of .223?)

What is going on here?

I don't know that pricing from two years ago would be consistent today on any firearm related item, not just ammo. :(

I can give dozens of examples of how high some increases have gotten. Shotshells and .22lr doubling in price is the most aggravating for me. I have already given up the really expensive toys.

I suspect your not the most active participant in these forums.

The cause and effects of these times has been posted for almost 2 years now. As long as Canada is but a drop in the bucket for consumption of shooting supplies, expect every bump in the supply and demand cycle in the US to be felt here.

Incase you have'nt heard the only industry Stateside not suffering through these tough economic times are the ammunition and firearms manufacturers.

The US shooting community is hoarding almost every item shooting related especially ammo and reloading components, all becuse of the Economy and their new Gun Grabber President.

I cant wait till the few weeks before rifle opener, and all of a sudden all those Fuddy Fudd's will be crying the blues when their once a year box of 7 em em shells is 2-1/2 times last years price, and that's if there is any on the shelves.

Supply

Relative to most gun and ammo stores in the USA , the shops in Alberta at least have a bountiful supply of almost everything. There may be a few holes with specific powders, but its not like there isn;t any choices.

Have you heard the stories of primers for $90.00 per thousand, and lining up at Walmart to buy handgun or rimfire ammo. FS

You know I think your right. There are going to be quit a few guys that don't keep abreast of current affairs wondering what on earth happend when they go to look for ammo in the fall.

Re the Russels bullet prices, in fact just last year it jumped from $59 to $72 when the price of lead skyrocketed. I was also there a couple of days ago and saw that it jumped from $72 to $92..Odd thing is the price of lead has actually dropped from the spike of a few months back. Sure we can play the exchange rate card, but these bullets are Canadian manufacture and it is more of a supply & demand scenario in my opinion. Thats the price you pay cuz if u dont take it somebody else will. Oddly enough I was also at Wholesale Sports and saw they were "clearing" out a bunch of old stock Excel bullets...Old stock with current pricing. Some deal:rolleyes:

unfortunetly. canada's gun industry is a very very very small fraction of the states. from what i have heard all of canada put together is less than that of texas. so its not much of a surprise that the states get most of the industry, and canada gets whatever is left over. also with how panicked the states have been lately with their buying. its very negativly effecting canada with ammo and guns.

I know about Obama and the hording in the States.

I'm going to Hawaii in a month, and when I called a gunstore on the island I'm staying at, I got an earful about it.

It almost feels as if I ought to start hording as well; I have what seems like a pretty big inventory at home right now; but at this rate - I almost feel afraid to deplete my supply; save 20-50 rounds a week to keep me steady.

Has anyone ever seen the price of ammo go down and availability go up?

Not in my memory and I remember the 70's lol

Not to be a conspiracy nut, but...

I have heard from credible sources that the big three (U.S., Canada, Britain) is moving towards controlling arms through limiting ammunition by price and availability. They will also be placing Environmental Tax levies on lead in the near future which will in turn hike prices even further.

You only need enough ammunition in order to hunt.... Having any more than one person could use in a year would make you a survivalist terrorist nut. ;)

Yes. Your point :)

So who are these credible sources and what postions do they hold with regards to this international arms control?

Soooo..... Only a box a year? Should last most hunters five or six. :D:popCorn:

Rather be a survivalist terrorist nut than a submissive downtrodden unable to speak, vote, or have my own mind sheeple servant of the regime.

So I guess those of us who shoot trap, or participate in other shooting sports like BR, sillouette, IPSC and others will be no longer.

Remember there are shooting sports in the Olympics.
Those folks do a lot of practicing.

Nope, your foil is a tad tight today.:bsFlag:

Lead bullets have been banned in most places in Europe and it has moved to the US. I think Commiefornia was the first in certain places and Minnesota and Oregon have been thinking about it. In 5 years I think most of the US and Canada will be under the knife to ban lead bullets.

As far as the price fixing on ammo goes I can see evidence of it in my own supply locker. When I buy supplies I always mark the date on the outside so I know how old the stuff is.

Small Rifle Primers
2006 $28.50/1000
2008 Spring time $32.00/1000
2009 Jan. $46/1000
Bought some last week $60/1000
These were from all the same store.

Box of .444 Marlin bullets $50 bucks a box, thank goodness I load my own.

There was an Ammo manufacture in Lethbridge Alberta that started making some a few years back but closed the doors soon after, heard it was a money management issue but I have always thought there were other forces at work (tin foil hat time).

Everyone at work thinks I am a survivalist nut as it is, sometimes I shave my head for the summer and they all comment jokingly that I am now a neo-nazi. My usual response is if you see he do the heil hitler salute be afraid, be very afraid, lol. And it also helps that I am the boss.
