Norc Commander. i wanna toss the rubbers and get some wood. thick wood. no joke. i tried using grip spacers and they work but it looks kinda funny with extra parts and they stick past the magwell making it hard to slap in a mag. i gots big paws so i could like some extra-thick wood panels (as long as i barely squeak by the IDPA thickness limits)

where to buy? looking for variety and reasonable price.

Or I could make a pair to fit your exact needs.

oh ya! hmm, prices in the 20-30 range are good. what are my wood choices to keep the price in that range? no scrollwork or extra carving needed - just plain is enough. i'll figure out the thickness soon - probably in the 10-13mm range.

No problem to make them 10-13mm. If you need it plain, $20 would be OK for most wood. For bloodwood, however, I would charge $25 - shipping not included. As for the wood choice, for the moment it can be bloodwood (as for me, it's the best), mahogany Santos, sapele, purpleheart, tigerwood (I would not advise it, though - too ordinary) and of course oak. Though oak is less exotic then others, I would not reject it - the wood pattern is often very nice. But still, personally I prefer bloodwood. Please take a look at my own grips:

Good luck finding screws.

metric, 10mm length - shouldn't be a big deal. we do live in canada, after all! :p there's at least 3 specialty fastener stores here in town, and two are only a wee bit out of my way during my home-work commute.

do it myself - i thought about that, but haven't got any tools that would be good to make a consistent shape to it.

screw holes - if i go ahead with this, i'll first make sure i can find the right length screws so that i don't have empty space above the screw head (screw sunk in too far). first, i gotta take measurements to find out just how think i want them, whether it's 8mm, 10mm, or 13mm, or whatever. a Para double-stack is a great approximation of how thick i want it overall.

Why bother about screws? We could could make the holes a bit deeper instead, couldn't we?

For sure you could.

I've just never seen really extended length 1911 screws for sale. Brownells has some (or used to at least) that were a touch longer than usual.

I also doubt that a fastener store would have what your going to need.

looks like 11.1mm is the max that i can go and still be within IDPA limits.

i have screws that ought to be long enough, so... PM sent! :D

I belive I some long screws in Stainless for colts, but that
would not fit the china guns????????
I could make you grips, but at present, no time for it.
That purple heart would look great, but a real hard wood to
work.
