Does the police's vest can really block a .40 bullet?![]()
JFC I hate calling out noobs but this is a doozey of a question to put it politely.
The resistance of soft body armour to bullets depends on the rating of the vest, primarily the number and density of weave of the fibres (mostly kevlar) that is made of. Generally, a vest rated to stop a 9mm FMJ will also stop a .40 S&W FMJ round. So the answer is yes, most of the vest worn by police will stop a .40 S&W round because they are rated to stop a 9mm that is much more common among criminals they are likely to face.Does the police's vest can really block a .40 bullet?![]()
got mine for my job from the gordon contract in toronto
Is it weird that this guy is looking for a vest that stops a .40 cal round, very common police ammunition. Im all for people owning body armor and all, but something about this is screaming wrong. Maybe im paranoid...
Yeah, I'm gonna agree here.
Hey boys, lets stop and think here for a second. Our LEO's have their lives on the line in our best interests, which may oblige us to be thinking before we speak in the interest of maintaining the Opsec/Persec of them and the like - lets not start giving out data, whether accurate or not, with out at least doing a bit of credentials check here?
Last I checked this OP is a Newbie, and perhaps needs to qualify the need of his question to be answered?
Just going out on a limb here, but perhaps an LEO could better answer this question, or at least a LEO/Mod/Admin could step in and PM this guy (Mike20008) and do a little digging. I'm sure we have enough collective skill sets here so as to confirm what his intent here is, whether he willingly obliges or not.

With all respect, I'm not a Newb- here, or in my professional field where this is a bit of concern when Red Flag questions are asked. If he wants to find this info on google or from the manufacturer's website, perhaps we should be guiding him there and not belittling valid concerns from members and willingly offer what could be answers to some very tragic consequences. I'd rather not that on my conscience.
Thank you for the education. I've seen the effects of ballistics "mitigation" and its energy dispersion on the human body first hand.Armour only stops the round from penetrating, it does not mitigate the energy transfer/pain. Furthermore, his asking of such a question shouldn't alarm anyone.
Are you serious?? Its common information. His "policeman's armour" context could be due to his lack of english grammar, not necessarily a hint of some secret agenda. Whether or not someone is looking to shoot at LE with a .40 or wear something that will stop .40 is neither a concern nor OPSEC. Armour only stops the round from penetrating, it does not mitigate the energy transfer/pain. Furthermore, his asking of such a question shouldn't alarm anyone. I'm sure there are many more scumbags(not saying the OP is one) wondering the same thing who don't post.
There are people who are more than willing to do bad things to citizens and LE alike. Its a fact of life, get over it.
