Well I am doing a Remington 700 build in 308. After looking around I figure the only parts I'm keeping are the receiver and barrel. So it would be a waste to buy a full rifle. Any sources you know of?

Fastest and easiest way to get a barrelled action is to buy the rifle, and sell off the parts you don't want.
If you see a Remington barrelled action for sale, that's likely what happened to it.

I dont know your budget but i think there around $1300 ... i would take a hard look at the new Pierce Titanium action that came out this year then out your barrel of choice on it. They look unreal. I think im putting one on my next custom.

I think Alberta tactical has them. If your going 308 i would put that action in a mcmillan edge stock, Sick start to a build if its in your budget. I will never build on a factory REM ever again... although the ones i did were awsome lol

you can order barreled actions from Remington. I have gotten 40x barreled actions and a 8mm magnum in the past.Took a long time to receive it. So you should be able to get the other one's.

If I wanted to build/bed a rifle myself with minimal tools I'd buy a Savage action and a Shillen prefit barrel. All you'd need to mate the barrel to the action is a Savage barrel nut Wrench and a go/no-go gauge. No gunsmith required.

Then buy some Devcon puddy and some other little tools and bed the rifle to any stock of your choice. Pick a bottom metal if you want a detachable box mag and all that's left is the optics and stock accessories.

If you buy the lowest end Remington rifles, the SPS series, Cabelas has the blued ones for around $550 and the stainless for around $650.00. I didn't notice any sporter weight 308's, so if you wanted a heavy barrel to keep, you'd have to buy a police or varmint model. If you were going to scrap the barrel, you could buy a 243 SPS for $550. Should be the same bolt face if all you want is the receiver and bolt. Personally I'd say scrap the factory barrel and blueprinting the receiver, and get custom target receiver that machined properly right off the bat. I think that's what I'm going to do.
