I'm looking at getting a new CZ rifle this spring and by the looks of it I may need a DIP rail to mount the scope. Is there a source in Canada? TC

Why do you think you will need to buy a rail to mount a scope on a CZ? I always try to keep it simple and mount directly on the dovetail = fewer parts and no damage to the dovetail from the retaining screws.

So you don't have to try multiple rings to fine some that work with your scope set up.

The rail doesn't always make any ring work you still need to determine height low med high.. It does make switching scopes from one gun to another somewhat simpler.
If you aren't equipped to take some measurements the rail somewhat makes the ring decision easier. I have at least 4cz's scoped at present and have taken measurements with appropriate caliper or snap gauges for mounting using info from ring and scope manufactures. I'm fortunate to have a good amount measuring gear to get the job done. Not against a rail just personally don't need the extra expense. By all means do as you like its your money and your gun.

Made it a whole lot easier for me. No monkeying around with finding 11mm or 3/8 and weird fitment.

HH:

Soooo many good rings available for the 11 mm dovetail now a days, no need to monkey around :).

I agree that the weird Czech version of a 3/8 dovetail found on the 452 American and some 452 magnums can be a little bid of a challenge to accommodate. Still can be done: Talley, Leupold Rimfire 13 mm, BKL257.

There's nothing "weird" about it, at all. Use rimfire rings for 3/8" dovetails, there's no magic or voodoo involved. And just about every set of rings can be mounted on 11mm or 3/8" as they come with a reversible clamp. How do you know which way to put the clamp? Before mounting it, tighten it and measure: if it comes out to 11mm then reverse it and it will be 3/8".

Yep. The Talleys are a great fit!

Actually, the Czech 3/8 dovetail that is on some 452 models is very different from what we call a 3/8 dovetail here in North America (very different dimensions). The standard 3/8 rings as we know them here, fit a 3/8 dovetail that is 3/8 (9.5 mm) wide at the top. They will not fit on the CZ "3/8" dovetail that is 13 mm wide at the top (the Czech dovetail is 3/8 wide at the base, the narrowest part of the dovetail). I guess that's why I called it weird.

Thanks for all the replies. Actually I'm looking to get a 527 in 17 Hornet so not a rimfire but I figured the fine folks on here have played with enough CZ's to find what I'm looking for and I was right :d. I'm just keeping my options open. I have a 455 Canadian on which I used Leupold medium rings. The 527 comes with rings but they might not work and I figured the DIP rail would allow me to use low rings. I have an "in" with a gun shop so I can play with all kinds of Weaver style rings but the 16mm on the 527 are hard to come by. TC

The 11mm rings/mount are just that when the clamps are tight; the same goes for the 3/8" rings. 3/8" is 3/8" just as 11mm is 11mm. There is nothing weird about it. The metric size has been standard in Europe, while dovetails in the New World have traditionally been 3/8". The CZ455's are all 11mm now.

Yes, we have seen this table before....unfortunately the Czech 3/8 dovetail is not exactly the same as we know it in North America.

We had a similar thread in 2014; one of the guys created a basic sketch to explain the wacky 3/8 CZ dovetail design versus the 11 mm, see post 24.
Basically...the CZ 11 mm dovetail measures 11 mm at the top. The CZ 3/8 dovetail is quite a bid wider, measuring just under 13 mm:

Hope that helps :)

Thank you, Kody. I guess I'm mystified by the mystery or difficulty of putting dovetail rings on CZ rifles because I've not had any problems. I have a 452 American and a 453 Lux as well as a 453 Varmint and a couple of 455's. All have scopes mounted with dovetail rings which have worked out very well and without issue. The rings I've used include BKL, Sportsmatch, and even UTG rings when the budget has been tight.

Having followed many CZ scope mounting discussions on RFC, I know that many shooters recommend dovetail rings for mounting scopes on all models of CZ bolt action rimfires. Among the favourite recommendations are Burris Signature rimfire rings, which come with an extra set of clamps -- one for the 3/8" on Americans and one for 11mm.
