You should be able to fin a good 600 Jr. for $ 75-100. With the volume you appear to be approaching, I would recommend a new 9000G however. You will avoid a lot of problems with a new press someone hasn't tinkered with too much, and you will find out that the 600 Jr.s are just too slow & monotonous to load a couple of flatseach and every week with.

I have a Ponsness/Warren machine for 12 ga. which suits me fine for the 7500 or so 12 ga. shells a year I go through ( + another 2500 or so my wife shoots). A pair of 600 Jrs. work just fine for the few hundred 20 ga. & .410's. The Jr.s will load about 200-250 shells an hour if you go right at it ... the PW an easy 500 an hour. ( 600 Jr.s are fairly easy to resell for about 1/2 of retail ).

It's all a question of time & volume. No matter what, you wont save any money reloading - you'll just shoot a lot more ! If you can spend a couple of hours a week reloading, the Jr. might be fine. If you want to "Get 'er Done", either the Mec 9000G or a PW (double the price of the MEC, but twice as much machine) is the way to go. No problem for parts with thwe PW ... a simple phone call ( 1-800 # ) and credit card # and the parts show up by mail within a week ! ( Only two small replacement parts needed in the past 10 years - and both were "my fault" , not the machine's )

Why not contact Claybuster, BMcCrae or DT10 Sam directly and "ask" what they are using ? ( Sam, being in retail has a bit of an "in" for factory loads, we don't all enjoy, however ! )

Regards...

Jacky, I have 2 Pacific 366's and they are another alternative you should look at. I am sure I have loaded 100,000 rounds out of the one without a hiccup but just a few thousand rounds our of the other. Not sure what they cost now but I paid about 300 dollars in the early 80's. I just moved up to the Okanogan and haven't set up my gun room yet or I would have you down for coffee aand show you how good they work. I don't shoot any competitive trap any more and once I get organized here I may even let them go.

What are you interested in spending on a good machine?

Based upon my experience with a variety of 5 different brands of loaders (single stage and progressive) over the years I am now settled on Ponsness Warrens and would never go back to anything else personally. Not to malign any others, but I simply find the PW's to be the best I've ever owned and operated.

If you can't find anything that suits your fancy around your area and are willing to foot the bill for the shipping, Irv's Shooting Supplies in Oshawa Ont (1-888 570 3056) has some used PW 800's for sale for around $400.00 I believe.

I have 4 of these machines, one in each gauge and love them. They retail for near $700.00 US. Perhaps a bit pricey, but one hell of a machine that with proper use and care should last forever.

If that's too much money and you're more interested in a single stage loader.....check e-bay. Best I'd recommend is a PW 375...second best, Mec Sizemaster.

Good luck.

Jacky, if you are going into reloading in order to save money on ammo, I'd suggest you seriously look closly at the cost of componants. Unless you are getting lead shot for less than $17.00 a bag and powder for less than $20.00 a pound and have a pile of once fired reloadable hulls you can break even on shell making. Now if you are going into it as a hobby, it has always been fun for me and never thought of it as monotonous, but I got a great break on a pile componants a few years back. If you need any older AA hulls let me know and I'll sell you a few. The old AA hulls can be reloaded many times. Regards FS

Yes I realize that. Shot is about $20 for a bag and 700X is going for around $225 for 12lbs, hulls are free, wads are around $109 for 5000, primers I can't remember.

HOWEVER, the problem is that there is no consistant source for factory rounds in Kelowna and the demand is quite high with my club. In fact we were all talking about it last Saturday.

I can load cheaper than Walmart ( $19.97 + tax = 22.77 for 4 boxes = 5.69 per box) but if flats of shells are around I can get them for $45-50 per flat taxes in (Winchester cheapo's, but work well and never had a problem) Winchester AA's are about $60-65 per flat.

So until there is a consistant source of factory ammo, reloading seems to be the way to go....then again components can be just as hard to get.

It really seems to be a hassle getting bulk shotgun ammo anything around here

Check with your local component supplier if you want to reduce costs somewhat.
Claybuster replacement wads are inexpensive ( I assume those are what you're getting for $ 109/case), as are Cheddite primers ( by the sleeve of 5000) when compared to the main brand stuff. Best deal going on powder that I've found is Alliant "Promo". 8 lb. size canisters only. A little over $100 for 8 lbs. Like it a lot, 32 lbs already gone, and working on my 5th
8-lb. container currently. Load data is the same as for "Red Dot", however, to achieve the same loads, you will need to drop down approx. 2 sizes on the powder bushing. Be careful to verify the charge weight by scale. This powder gives very uniform results, hot weather or cold, and works well in Win. "AA", Fed. "GM" and Rem. "STS" hulls.

This is exactly the problem....there isn't one. We can get stuff from a fella who only spends about 5 months of the year in Kelowna and then he is off to the states to shoot. He is also un-reliable when it comes to shells and components. I would love to just buy 5-10 cases of factory ammo at a time but Vancouver is the closest place to get stuff. It sucks not having a consistant reliable supplier around.

Thanks for all the advice and help everyone. I really don't know what to do ?

Sounds like you need to get a few guys together for a quarterly trip to a Vancouver area distributor to stock-up on bulk supplies ... or alternatively, become the "new distributor" yourself out of your garage or basement. Yes I realize it's a 5 hour one way (250 k. +/-) trip, but that wouldn't stop me from stocking up at least a couple of times a year. Get some consensus on loads to standardize things somewhat, then order enough wads, powder & primers for a quarter or half season. Just"get 'er done".

RE:where to buy a used press?

Hey! Jacky, Ebay is the place to find a used press. You can reload 7/8's or 1oz loads for around $3.00 mark.Great for practise,16 or 20 yrd. choked full.Use promo, claybuster grey, and cheapest primers & shot you can find on sale and stock up.Hulls should be free! When shooting turnaments, use factory loads!

Our club gets shell shipped in from Kent/Gamebore in Chatham, Ontario. They pay the shipping if you order more than 25 cases. Works out to around $50 a case for 12 ga trap loads (taxes included). They have hunting loads available also at reasonable prices.

Give them a call at 1-800-844-1220
