Where to buy a whole reloading setup?

Hello,

My buddy wants to start reloading. His recent 22-250 and Henry 45/70 purchases make it make a lot more sense. He's just planning on going to wholesale sports and buying a whole kit.

Anyone know where he should go or order from instead? His dad has RCBS stuff and has been reloading for like 40 years, I use a combination of RCBS/hornady/dillon equipment, so I would steer him that way.

I'll teach him how to buy something from the internet if I have to... Ha.. friend is an electrician, but they made him get a cell phone. His CB radio wasn't good enough.

When I started reloading I went all out with an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Deluxe Reloading Kit. Loved everything about it except the case trimmer. I'm now using the Lee Quick trim instead, much better and faster. I also use the press to prime the cartridges. I've never been a fan of the hand priming tool. I've since added an RCBS Turret Press to the setup. Started with RCBS dies, moved to Lee Ultimate dies, I'm now use Redding forming dies and a Forster seating die. If building a kit from scratch I would go for a Redding T7, RCBS Chargemaster, Lee Quick trim and Lee Ultimate dies. That's on the higher end of a starting setup though.
 
I hear you on the cost of the stuff. All together I have a Dillon 650, two rcbs presses, a chargemaster, a hornady powder measure, about $300 worth of trimmers and deburring, etc stuff and 15 sets of dies. :)
 
Like many , I started with the lee 50th anniversary kit. I have since replaced about everything in the kit, but still use the press for rifles and cast bullet sizing. I'd guess over 30000 cycles at least. Probably closer to 40k. Looks like Amazon is the cheapest on some stuff these days. The rcbs kit at prophet looks to be a good deal as well. I wish I had started wit a steel press in the first place, but cost wise at the time, the cheapo fit the bill.
 
Whats his budget. The rcbs kit is great. I started with it and found every tool useful. The prophet river sale is probably the best deal going for it right now. The above advice on the redding t7 is good as well but the press alone is worth more than the whole rcbs kit. I would think the hornady kit would be good as well. Not sure where you are in the okanagan but i think antlercreek has some hornady kits. Grouse river would have redding but at a premium.
