Where to buy DevCon

awesome, thanks. I see they make one with stainless steel. will this one work?
Can the Devcon epoxies be tinted to color, if so what would you use to tint them?

Sorry for all the questions, usually just use Acraglas gel kit but I want to try this Devcon stuff

I have used universal tinting compound, available in paint stores, to tint epoxy and it seems to work ok. However, I've not done so with DevCon. My only concern would be possibly affecting the chemical integrity of the mixture and weakening it. I presume you want this for glass-bedding recoil lugs, etc., so strength is of paramount importance. OTOH, in such an application, I would think the bedding is unlikely to show anyway, so is it necessary to tint it?

Might be a good idea to contact DevCon and get the info "straight from the horse's mouth."

I checked the Acklands catalogue and the
Steel putty 1 lbs $47.05
Aluminum Putty 1 lbs $66.00
Stainless steel putty 1 lbs $82.49
Titanium putty 1 lbs $110.00

I think that these are reasonable prices, if you break it down its cheaper than Acraglas where you get 4 oz for $22.50.

Anyone have experiance with the DevCon's that have stainless, titanium, or aluminum in them. Or just stick to the regular steel?

Be aware auclands is a wholesaler, if you know someone with an account there you can get a much better price than list. Prices are determined by how much the customer spends over the year. Y ou can save 50% off of list, sometimes more.

I was in the main Aucklands in Calgary, they have a sign up saying " sales to account holders only". I guess they don't want any more public sales?

I have used all of them for various tasks. The one I use the most is the Aluminium and the Steel. I prefer the aluminium for most rifles due to it being a little lighter but mostly due to it's anticorrosive properties. The Steel will over time allow some corrosion to develope if there is moisture trapped between the bedding and the action. As for coloring they don't color well at all, they are light grey(Alumin.) or dark grey (steel) adding any die except black is a waste of time, even the black can only die it to a certain depth, you cannot get a solid black color or a brown to match wood like you would with Acraglass. But it is a better bedding compound as far as I'm concerned. On a final note use enough release agent! I have never had a glue in but had to remove an action once, It's not easy:eek: .
