Where to buy Dillon press?

I'm planning on getting the Dillon Square Deal press and am wondering if it's better to just buy it directly from Dillon. Has anyone else bypassed retailers and bought direct? Pro's/cons? (I'm in Ontario).

Yes I have bought accessories for my 550 many times directly from Dillon. Its the only way to go. Takes about 2 weeks for delivery by UPS.
 
Yup... Direct.

Even "if" UPS charges you their brokerage fee (they never billed me) you'll probably still come out ahead.

Plus... You can shop in your underwear and presto... Your stuff arrives at your door.
 
DO NOT - repeat - DO NOT - have UPS deliver it. Unless you like getting boned - and hard.

Ask Dillon if they will send it USPS instead.
Or have it send UPS to a friend in the USA and have them mail it to you. (or go get it there)

I had emailed them yesterday to ask about delivery to Canada and the rep said 'yes via FedEx'.

What's the deal with UPS? (just curious).
 
The UPS brokerage fees are rediculous...between $25-$50 "per box" (depending on size) That's just the brokerage, not the canadian taxes (which all couriers are supposed to collect)...

Fedex rocks...we use them at work all the time

USPS is also good.

I actually left a package at UPS even after driving there a long way to pick it up. I'm sorry, but there is no way I'm paying $25 in fees for a $10 item delivered UPS from an eBay transaction. I took the $10 loss gladly and will never, ever buy anything internationally that ships UPS ever again. Ever.

(Did I say "ever" yet?)
 
UPS has been known to charge outrageous amounts to "broker" your pkg through customs for you....as if they are doing you a favour.
Then they bone you $50-$60-$100 whatever they want for this.

Never have anyone send you anything across the border via UPS. EVER
 
Anyway, as far as Dillon presses are concerned, I bought my entire setup NIB from a single dealer on eBay in the US for about 30% less than ordering directly from Dillon. He made me a package deal that included the XL 650, the case feeder, die and caliber conversion sets, extra primer tubes, the primer dish metal thingy, the powder check system, a spare parts kit, and a bunch of other stuff I can't even remember right now. HI also didn't have to pay GST or PST or HST at the post office when I picked it up. It was sent USPS Priority and arrived in about 5 days in one huge box.
 
I just got my sdb directly through Dillon about a month ago. It was shipped via USPS. Brokerage fees were about $72. Not to bad.

You can order from custom reloading service(there shipping is ridiculously expensive)or the shooting edge in Calgary. There prices are a bit marked up than from Dillion's, but it's probably from the shipping costs.
 
If your close to Ogdensburg like we are in Ottawa you can have pretty much anything shipped to the UPS store in Ogdensburg.
It cost 5$ per package flat rate. Just google for more info. Also you don't pay duty on groceries you can buy at the Walmart conveniently located across the street from the UPS store.

If thats not an option always beg for USPS an in US Postal Service (while its still around). I mean beg.

After that I would say FedEx, then the rest.
 
bought my two from John Parsons at precision reloading in BC.

I have since ordered many accessories from Dillon direct. When I phoned and spoke with them, they were only too happy to send by mail. The power of human speech can be far better than the human digits for many problems
 
Picked mine up right at the shooting edge, fair price.

On a side note, dillon is awesome. Broke the primer index arm on my 650 yesterday. Called and wanted to buy 2 so I have a spare, they just sent me 2 and springs under warranty. Sweet.
 
I bought my 650 at Ellwood Epps last month. I'm not sure if I saved any money or not if you consider all the shipping and brokerage charges but even if it was another $40, I'm okay with that. A couple of extra bucks to support someone in Ontario that stocks product, no problem.

There shouldn't be any brokerage fees from USPS shipping. You will have to pay GST/HST and possibly the $7.50 (or whatever CBSA charges now) fee if they inspect it, but nothing more.

This is the best time of year to buy Dillon products as many retailers have a yearly quota to keep and usually will drop prices accordingly. If you can find an independent dealer that is low on his yearly number you can really get good savings. Found one a couple of years ago on a 550 machine that I needed on the cast boolits website. By the time it was on my front door I basically received 3 caliber conversion kits, 5 extra Large and small primer rods and a set of .45acp dies for free over buying directly from Dillon. As others have stated, only have it sent USPS.
 
Re FedEx, be aware that they also have the same practice as UPS. Release the goods and then followup with a letter advising u owe them for goods received(broker fees). Total rip-off
