Where to buy leather holster, mag pouch

As much as I like leather holsters, after rolling around the ground on a tactical course where gun, body, equipment gets covered in talcum powder like dust, kydex is so much easier to just spray and clean. Also you won't mind as much when the kydex is scratched/gouged vs. a $150 and up custom leather holster.

a holster is just a tool... most of the leather ones are treated to be water resistant so a quick spray down to clean will work just as well for them as kydex.... chicks dig scars, so a little weathering of a leather holster is a goodthing, don;t tell me your one of those guys who has never thrown his gun on the ground and had an instructor step on it.... try it sometime, guns are tools, nothing more.... do you cry when you drop your stapler ?

TIM COX,

I agree with you guns and holsters are tools. My HK P2000 has lots of 'Character Marks' from training courses and being tossed to ground and such. For my purposes the kydex holsters perform as well and in some cases even better than my Leather Alessi holsters. I am obsessive when it comes to cleaning my guns and equipment and the kydex are easier to clean.

My kydex Comptac Holsters also cost less than my Alessi's and are delivered in 2 weeks vs. the one year delivery time for Alessi holsters. I have of couple of the leather ones built when Lou was still alive, I'll keep those scuff free for now!!;)

For leather holsters you may want to try Ritchie Leather Co. Ltd. Lightning Arms Sports sell them. Skip Ritchie used to work for Lou Alessi and is making similar holsters. I have bought some Alessi holsters from the new Alessi (after Lou passed away) and I must say the quality is slightly less (softer leather). Some guys in the US who have bought Ritchie's holster are more like the old Alessi.

The cool thing about Alessi style holsters like the CQC/S is that the belt loop is cut with tapered edges, this means it works for 1.25" belts as well as a 1.5" belt. Contrast with other makers where a 1.5 " holster will not work with a narrower belt.

I also have a Del Fatti holster and a Josh Bulman holster and I must say the Old Alessi/or New Ritchie is a better product.

If you want leather and you are in BC, Call English Leather Shooting Supplies in North Vancouver, (604) 990-9114 Lem makes custom leather holsters, mag pouches and leather belts. He is a past Canadian IPSC champion, Does beautiful work but it can take time, he does a lot of movie stuff now. Might be worth a call if quality is what you are after.

Leather is better suited for all day carry if it's detachable and is IWB; day in and day out; OWB design is for colder weather and diff concealment conditions. With leather -dust will eventually get into pores and will start scratching gun's finish. Kydex is very well suited for daily carry and is faster on the draw; easier to care for - wipe it down or even rinse it with soap...
