I'm looking for somewhere to get one of these bases of another good quality base for a 12FV... can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

You can get Farrell rings and bases from Alberta Tactical Rifle. He's on the board as well.

I will never deal with Richard Near again. He acted like a dink to me so I would look elsewhere before buying his product which is, IMHO, overpriced for what you get. My opinion. Do what you want.

Holy crap!!! They are half the cost of the gun! lol

Ya I am going to have to find a much cheaper way to mount the scope for now. Any ideas?

We carry both TPS, Farrell and Warne. TPS @ $90 is pretty hard to beat! There scope rings are second to none.

Well, if you're looking for an inexpensive way to get a 20 MOA type adjustment in your base, buy a set of Burris rings and inserts, they will work on any Redfield style (you can also get them set up for Weaver bases). The various sized inserts will allow you up to a 20 MOA adjustment. They work quite well, don't mar the scope, and don't cost the world. Of course, they do lack the LR/sniper cool factor, but I've always been more of a "cool is as cool does" kind of guy anyway. - dan

Richard Near is in Camrose, Ab and his bases are second to none. His customer service is also outstanding. When it comes to optics, rings bases etc you get what you pay for period.

We normally sell the Farrell for $100, warnes for $110. I know the guys down South have been undercutting but thats okay. I think you'll find our prices are generally very reasonable. I.E. MSP anticants for $45 as opposed to $65....

We try to provide prompt service and info ..........happy shopping....

Wow, where was I looking? That's way cheaper then I thought.... cool! So any preferences/advantages on TPS vs Farrel?

What does 20MOA mean?

Thanks

In general if one is refering to a base for scope rings, 20MOA would mean that the base has a slope of 20MOA. This aids with tactical or target scopes when shooting long range. Lets say your scope has a total of 100MOA of elevation adjustment. By mounting it on a base with a 20MOA slope you in effect place your scope adustment internally down 20MOA, (say this would be roughly 50MOA up and 50MOA down on a flat base, you now change this adding more adjustment on the top end). On most scopes you would still have plenty of adjustment left off the bottom end however the added 20MOA helps "stretch things out" a little if your going long range.

So if I am mostly going to be within 200yds, but at the same time like the idea of being able to go longer distances if I visit a different range.... should I still go with the 20MOA or what would you suggest? Would it still work the same at 50-200yds as a 0MOA base?

Thanks

This is an excerpt from a post from our own NormB. This should explain the reasoning why folks put a 20 moa rail on their rifle.

By mounting the scope with tapered bases you can use the downward adjustment in your scope that really is seldom used, by pointing the objective lens somewhat down towards the barrel.

A rule of thumb for standard Rem/chester rifles is .001 rise in the rear base is worth about 1" at 100yd or 1 min of angle. So, to gain 25 min. of elevation adjustment you could adjust your scope 25 min. up, or raise the rear mount by .025" . In this case and you would only need an additional 17 mins on your scope adjustment to hit at 1000yd.

The down side, and there is always a down side. To shoot close in, say at 100 yds, you are now well off centre.. and you may have taken too much and are shooting high at the lowest adjustment of your scope. Some thought and care are in order in picking the slope.
